Re: what do you do, what you make?

I really can't complain especially since Monterey was my second choice.

Oh, man, the best bicycle I ever owned was a Giant. It was a sweet, sweet mountain bike. Light as can be. Bought it for $600 in 1990ish and had it stolen in 1992ish. Pissed me off...

RN, LPN, CNA? If you're going for RN, what school? I highly recommend IUP for nursing in PA if you can afford to move over there. I know all the professors and I know the program, really a top notch nursing school.

Re: what do you do, what you make?

10 years as a Realtor and I wish I could say I make a certain income every year. It's as bad as 45k and as good as 85k. My wife makes 50k as an electronics buyer for a major medical manufacturer which usually saves us month to month. The upside is I love it and don't have any kind of 'boss' whatsoever.

Re: what do you do, what you make?

I'm the Financial Planning & Analysis Manager for a medical device company. I have 15 years of experience and make ~$100k in salary and bonus plus good insurance and partial 401k match. Being 4 miles from home is a big plus.

My wife is a Sr. Marketing Manager and makes ~$80k.

Keep in mind where I live, though. I paid $488k for my house in 2002. A 4 bedroom tract home. In a good neighborhood, but nothing fancy. The estimated value today is ~$750k....insanity.

I almost went to Misericordia for either nursing or occupational therapy but chose to enter the Air Force instead.

Re: what do you do, what you make?

This thread is a little depressing, a lot of people make good money here. Unfortunately for me I made some poor choices in my career. The choices however were very good for my family though which was why I made them. Finsished college and worked for 4.5 years for the government in the natural resources field. Best job I ever had, running around the woods, playing with boats, ATV's, 4x4's helicopters, bears and fish etc. Made 42K a year (Canadian). However I could not stay in that field and live where I wanted to raise my family so I quite and left to work for Honda Manufacturing on a two year contract. The most boring tedious job ever. Made $20 an hour but hated it. The contract ended and no full time work was to be had with Honda. I then worked for $15 an hour framing houses. I learned a lot, was sore and tired all the time, in good shape but poor. Finally I'm with the local municipality as a water/wastewater maintenance co-ordinator 34K a year to start. It's a contract but my boss is pushing to get it full time. I work 15 minutes from home in a cushy office, work 8:30 to 4 and never a single weekend or holiday. I'm content and know that I will never be rich working here but it allows me to be home with my kids and wife a lot. Wife is a teacher makes about 62K a year and really good benefits. She is going to keep me well kept I hope

I was born in Woodland (up by Sacramento), and I know that when my parents and I lived there 12 years ago our house was worth around $100k. They looked at it online recently and now it's worth around $400k. The land value there is just ridiculously high.
But now all those people from California are taking the $400k they get from selling these tiny houses and moving to the Mid-West, then they can live like kings. Our $280k house is 5 bedroom, 3 bath, with a basement and a media room. So you can imagine how big a $400k house would be...

Re: what do you do, what you make?

Left the Cable TV industry 2 years ago as a field tech, did mostly return path troubleshooting on our local network for $34k a year. 15 weeks from finishing my RN, already work at a local hospital and will pull in somewhere around $23 / hour once I'm fully licensed and done with orientation.

At least you can afford a home in So Cal. Try being single and working in the bicycle industry! I don't live in poverty but the area ain't cheap.

Re: what do you do, what you make?

i am a garage door repair specialist (no matter what i call it, it still sounds like a lame blue collar job) 3 years in, just over 45k for 2007 fiscal year
excluding side jobs (which include fixing garage doors per my trade, or setting up computers/networks, and fixing/troubleshooting computers/networks per my hobby) which i bet i raked in another $5000 or so tax free
no college, graduated HS (barely) i still want to go to college, and (hit me please) turned down a 100% free ride from my uncle to go to a tech school for computer networking, this past summer/fall
