4 second 0-60 would be a good argument for getting one. Unexpected is for sure, the MDX is a nice vehicle (used to build them). If you can get a "Trail-Rail" that suits your needs then go for it. It will have a fun factor higher then most cars anyway.

Re: Geeez.. Decisions, Decisions..
I wouldn't trust a WRX personally. Engines are crap and the transmissions are crap as well. Those 5spds will blow into outer space. Multi-role vehicles are always a compromise, and can leave you dissapointed. Wrx's are NOT off road vehicles! The ones you see on tv are vastly different. Wrx's are family sedans, period. Just because you put a fat exhuast, and some springs does not make it a performance vehicle. It is a all weather mountain sedan
![]() The STi is a beast of sedan however, and most of the hating about transmissions and engines do not apply to that model. I have a degree in cars, I have built engines and shizzle, dyno tested the popular mods for "tuner cars", and witnessed the myths. With that said, I dislike working on them ![]() /end rant

Re: Geeez.. Decisions, Decisions..
There are lot's of good cars to tune, P8riot, don't get me wrong, if there ever was a time to make an awesome car it is now. You can get a fantastic vehicle for a decent price, if you modify it correctly. The thing is wouldn't trust 98% of of the shops out there to do it. Most of the guys who open the shops, sell ebay crap to high school kids. Not the kind of people I want building or modifying a car. Finding the right shop is the most important part. There are far to many things you can do to a car to mess it up.
I would personally look at Lotus Super 7/caterham replicas, I have ridden in them, and they are a blast! Not to mention much, much, much less expensive than an Ariel. There are tons of them so to weigh your options correctly, it will take a bunch of research, and exploring on the internet. The only real downside is that you pay for their R&D ![]() Other than that a pre-built Super 7 type car might be something to look into, good luck!

Re: Geeez.. Decisions, Decisions..
I'm not a fan of tuning stock cars either. They have been engineered and tuned already. I don't even like CAI. I second the Lotus. On the track around here they are the fastest car hands down. Faster then Ferrari, Porsche etc with a trained driver.

Re: Geeez.. Decisions, Decisions..
Turkish I'm sure you have your own experinces to back up your opinion on WRX's but I feel you painted them with a pretty broad brush.
There are lots of WRX's out there that are tunned properly and are very reliable. The EJ20 and EJ25 engines are rather stout but any engine can be destroyed by detonation regardless of parts. The transmissions on most AWD cars are the weak point, people who abuse them will loose them. As for the "off road" WRX's your correct, they are not built for it. And yes springs, especially lowering springs, would not help. However a properly prept rally suspension would suffice to do the job. WRX's in rally form are tough, though this wouldn't be cheap. Rally cars are a different beast then a street tuned car. I made the suggestion as it sounded like he wanted a fun street car and was never going off road except on a construction site. An AWD car would then be the ticket. I just wanted to clear up the idea that WRX's are not a good tuner platform. If it is done properly it is a really good car. ![]()

Re: Geeez.. Decisions, Decisions..
Sure they can be good cars, but still, if going on a construction site is the only requirement, then there are much better options out there. Don't get me wrong they are decent cars, for getting groceries in the snow, but they will get humbled by so many "inferior" cars. Too many people have never driven anything faster than "their buddies STi". Oh and don't forget that horrible thing called "Understeer". You might not notice it putting about on the street, but avoiding cones in a slalom at 60 is another story. Steering feel, suspension, tire width are all concerns, when building a proper car. The Wrx has deficits in all these areas. The STi reduces the effects some of these issues have, and is an awesome car. I even considerd buying one!
But hey, if you like the car, then it is "best" for you. That is what matters. If I was in the market for a comprimise car, then I would certainly look into an STi, I don't feel that the base Wrx's are worthy enough of the effort a person has to put into them. They can be a good tuner platfrom, but honestly I people get to absorbed with AWD that it clouds the negatives. If you have a WRX Long Bow, I am not saying your car is junk, I am just giving the reasons why I wouldn't buy anything short of an STi for something to start with. Turkish
