I didn't have to read what he won the prize for; I've actually had to sit through the man's classes....have you?

All he is doing with the op-ed is trying to sell his book. Google his name, look him up on our faculty website, you'll see plenty of proof. Each of his recent op-eds on "the three trillion dollar war" are just modified to tell regional paper-readers what they want to hear, in order to sell his book. But don't defend the man's economics CV just to use op-eds that simultaneously claim "the rich" are both undertaxed and overtaxed.

And btw, calling an op-ed -- especially one that is little more than an advertisement -- an "article" is really stretching the use of the word, "champ."

Haha, I can understand you not liking the guy. My point was that before you try to discredit him professionally, maybe you should know about his contributions to the field. Just because he is a poor teacher (guessing from you attitude) pushes his own material, doesn’t mean he isn’t a credible resource. Even in op-ed, professionals generally give useful information/insights. I’d say that calling it an article isn’t much of a stretch; however I never intended to imply that the document should be published/reviewed by the academic community. Still, not all the information in it can be discarded for the reasons you stated.

Needless to say I found your facebook reference and claim that he won a Nobel Prize on fluff (when you didn’t have any clue what it was awarded for) was a bit silly. Sorry to patronize.

Lastly, the Stiglitz article was a last minute addition to my post. The important one was the other that revealed Bin Laden predicted our reaction to 9/11 and suggests that one of the objectives for the attack was to drive us into a dicey fiscal situation via over expenditure on a war effort.

Where do you even begin to get the idea that I "didn't have any clue" what one of my professors, in one of my majors, got his Prize for? Did you even read my response? I made the facebook reference because I felt it was just as relevant to the topic at hand as your reference to the Nobel Prize, and I stand by my assertion. The man is a hack, and his advertisement op-eds on this subject are contradictory (as I illustrated) and not to be trusted. If you'd like to open a thread on why you think Stiglitz's economic theories in general (or his market analysis work that earned that team a prize in particular), make him an expert on Iraq, I'll be happy to trade blows in there.

Agreed. I am not willing to kill without reason, but these people have shown by their own action that they are traitors, so a trial would be a simple showing of the evidence and a basic formality. Then declare them traitors and shoot them. If it were me, I would gut shoot them and let them bleed. If they want to be a bleeding heart liberal, I'll show them the meaning of the term.

I'm a fan of people being able to state what they want, regardless of how stupid it is? Shooting people because you disagree with their point of view is far worse than protesting outside a recruitment center. I'm glad we've come far enough as a society that people disagreeing with our military would be (in Elwenil's world, at least) grounds for summary execution.

I don't have the military background a lot of people here do. I'm damn liberal for an American and somehow missed out on anything approximating a sense of nationalism. I think its as dangerous as any other fanatical beliefs, including those of the protesters. Their protest should not be permitted to block the entrance of the facility (as, I believe, most city statutes require), but they are well within their rights to be in the vicinity.

edit: Not only would you kill someone for voicing their opinion (admittedly in an illegal fashion, but that's a misdemeanor at best) you'd do it in a cruel and unusual way. You're remarkably bloodthirsty and leap to attack people exercising one of their fundamental rights as ordained by the Constitution.

Traitors? How so? By not blindly loving the military?
