Re: Berkeley council tells Marines to leave

Here is a more relevent question. You smoke weed...thats illegal here. How ridiculous would it be if my response to you was "Hey Fenian420, if you don't respect this country's laws why dont you get out". It is just so outrageously stupid to simplify the situation like that. I just hope people here can appriciate what a ridiculous and ignorant thing "if you don't like it in america, move out" is to suggest after about 20sec of thought. Also, it's important to remember that that just because someone complains about how things are done in the US doesn't always mean they hate it here. I love it in the US. However, I have many problems with gov. policy and some of the ways the structure of our gov. has evolved. I often complain about them till my face is blue, but it does not mean I should move out of be executed for treason (ahem).

Re: Berkeley council tells Marines to leave
Which is why I later went back and edited my post after reading and understanding what I think he meant better.
As for my Question, was just a question.... I would've been out of there regardless, pure hate is pure hate however you put it. A countrys law and objectives are a major difference, and something like just toking is kinda seen as a joke to alot of Americans, I've met countless cops (alright, less than a dozen) that let you off for toking publicly. Ive met 2 cops (were partners) that toked with me and 2 of my friends. But any other law I see what your getting at with what you said but what i meant with the laws vs objectives thing is this: Laws yes, laws that need reform in the eyes of only some citizens its hard but it can be done to completely get them redone and put in place. When your going up against the entire will of the country, like everything that your president stands for its a whole different story. I'm pretty sure people (politicians included, and within the US) have tried to stand up against Bushs policies (No child left behind, patriot act, etc. etc.) and I mean a dedicated way to stand up to them, so far it seems they're left without a voice. |

Re: Berkeley council tells Marines to leave
It's interesting that you bring up the cops thing Fenian.
I think people have highly unrealistic expectations of Police. They're people; They do the same things we do. Yes, smoking pot is against the law. But come on now... most of us have done it. Some of us do it regularly. Cops are people too.

Re: Berkeley council tells Marines to leave
Yea I'm not sure how NYC would be (seein that you live in NY, just assumin NYC
) but here in Seattle we have hempfest and all of that where cops pretty much just spectate a bunch of people ages 12-70s just standing around in a huge festival all focused around smoking dro', it's actually a pretty neat thing around here, they do go after anyone under 18 (as should IMO) but leave anybody else older than 18 alone, people bring out their hookahs, bongs and etc.. In the 4 years in a row ive gone to the festivals around here (hempfest, bumpershoot, froget other big one) I have never seen a single fight break out anywhere on the grounds just one time seen drunks fighting outside when they were leaving the place walking back towards DT. |
