Re: John McCain
Not to mention... can you imagine how intense some McCain vs. Obama or McCain vs. Clinton debates could get?? Fiery characters all.

Re: John McCain
I actually like John 'straight talk' McCain, and I wish that he had won the republican nomination in 2000. I like that he doesn't tow the party line, he generally seems to think things through and doesn't mix words or conceal truth when he discusses his opinions. He's also not a chickenhawk - he is a decorated veteran and former POW. If he were to take office, I think the country would finally be able to witness a president who actually deserved and was qualified for the role of commander in chief. The thing I like about him the most, which now seems commonplace, is his resistance to corporate power and corruption of government. In 1999 (on campaign in NH) he said he would lead "a fight to take our government back from the power brokers and special interests and return it to the people and the noble cause of freedom it was created to serve." When he goes up againt Cliton or Obama later this year, he's going to have to campaign on that pledge (or something similar) again, and I think that's a good thing.
My reservations with McCain are that I disagree with several of his conservative views and priorities, mostly revolving around rights to privacy, abortion, and international diplomacy vs. military involvement. I also believe that he is too old to hold office (he will be 73, and complete his first term at 77) and is an awkward public speaker. McCain truly deserved the nomination in 2000. Instead, he took a beating at the hands of Bush's campaign machine, which in case you forgot was among the most vicious in American history (accusing him of everything from being a homosexual 'manchurian candidate' to fathering an illegitimate black child.) I hope that at least this time around he's granted a real shot, though I very much doubt any republican candidate has a chance at this point. This election is going to be fueled largely by the miserable failures of the Bush administration at every level, and is going to be as indiscriminate as he has been when defining the 'enemy'. |

It's a toss up for me whether I'm going to vote for Senator Obama or Congressman Paul. I guess it depends on whether either of them are actually on the ballot... Regardless, I plan on "throwing away" my Presidential vote.

Thats pretty much any vote an educated voter gives anymore. Uneducated voters our number educated ones easily 2 to 1. And the media plays it hardcore, they will show the parts of the candidates they want people to see and bury the parts that effect their ratings. Congressman Paul seems to be picking up alot of Romney's voters. Which really isnt helping huck or McCain. |

Re: John McCain
The more I think about it the more I like Obama. Mainly for the reason Cing pointed out.
I think it would be nice to have somebody that can stand up and give a coherent and inspiring speech. That can make up for incoherent policies. While I find Paul's "speaking of his mind" refreshing I don't think it is good for a leader of a diverse and divided country. My crazy uncle speaks his mind and nobody would want him as president either.

Re: John McCain
Neither are crazy and are actually quite practical.
But let us keep this thread on topic and talk about McCain. If you want to discuss things Obama please start another thread.
