Marriage just a binding contract with way to much emphasis. When people keep hassling me to marry my girlfriend, it really shows how little they know me. It's like, without some stupid ring, it's not official. We're just pretending to be serious about life. It's insulting to say the least.

Some people call this man a "cheap-skate" and whereas he probably is: it has no bearing on his argument: Valentine's day is just a commercial holiday where women expect to be pampered. They are just as much a victim to this as men are.

I had flowers delivered to Becky last year and the looks she got from her female coworkers (who weren't close friends) could only be labelled as "pissed-off" that her boyfriend was that thoughtful on Valentine's day, and their boyfriends/husbands weren't.

In reality: it took me longer to google Becky's work address than it did to order the flowers. With a small hit to my bank account, I was able to piss off numerous people: and that's what Valentine's day is all about: Make other people jealous about your great relationship and how "thought-full" you are. It's a scam. I'd rather surprise my GF a few days before with something out of the blue, rather than feel like I'm expected to do something.

That said: this guy has serious issue with respecting women. But judging from his interactions, it's not surprising. The article reads as if he's been scraping the bottom of the barrel for years and goes out his way to target women with self-esteem issues (which he flat-out says).

Amen. I hate xmas for the same reason. I tend to see something suitable for a gift to someone at random times throughout the year, buy it and give it immediately. But I can't afford to do that as xmas approaches. I have to put it aside and wait for 12/25.

And when a holiday comes, I'm often empty-handed, having no idea what to get. I have that problem this week with my mom's 81st birthday. I've gotten her lots of surprises over the last few months, but this week I'm stumped.

Next year should be better. I meet someone special in Colombia.
