Re: Whats with all the Shootings?

It's a bit of a joke silly, I don't carry for those reasons

It's not for coolness or anyother stupid crap. There are golden chains and baggy clothes for that

I'm sure I realize the responsibility, thank you. I don't need someone telling me what I already know.

I was just stating that since I open carry, when I go into a particlular store for some tasty organic goods, people give me funny looks. Most have moved from Cali, and are not used to "regular" people carrying guns. Is it wrong to laugh inside when I see somebody offended? Not in my mind, their "feelings" are less important than my life.

If you thought that I purposely go places to cause reaction you are wrong, maybe I worded it badly?

Bottom line, guns are serious business, and I don't treat them like toys.

GET IT NOW?

Explaination accepted. :P

However guns are never something to joke about even off handedly about. I'm probably the most glib person you'll ever meet (I poke fun at my BOSS during employee evaluation meetings) but there are somethings you just don't touch with a 10ft pole and a hazmat suit. Especially given the location of a thread concerning school shootings.

There was another thread when someone asked about purchasing a gun for self protection and some of the things there I found particularly priceless.

Two things in particular:
1) The greatest defense is the attitude you have when confronted. Your gun should be a weapon of last resort.
2) The best carriers of handguns are the people who you never suspect have one on them.

BTW, where exactly are you that you can carry a .45 on the hip in the open? I'm curious. ^_^
First guess would be Texas

I realize your concern, I agree with both your points

I live in Arizona, we have a pretty decent open carry law

There are some issues with it however, and people are working hard to fix them.

Open carry of a handgun is illegal in Texas... Go figure.

I suppose it's like walking into a grocery store manned by fundamentalists with a Penthouse/Hustler under your arm.

Or offering cola or coffee to a Mormon salesman.

Re: Whats with all the Shootings?

Back on the main subject, I still think its the media's obsession with getting shocking newstainment to pull in the viewers that leads to MORE gun related crimes because a good portion of these people just want to "go down in a blaze of glory" or be "remembered".

In this way, the media's obsession with school shootings offers them the exposure on the way out that they want, and simultaneously gives imitators examples to follow that make them feel less "alone" in their ideas and more certain of exposure that will perpetuate the cycle.

It is saddening.

It's only a matter of time before we see one of these on Youtube.

Re: Whats with all the Shootings?

I thought there was a prohibition against caffeine. Is that an urban legend?

Re: Whats with all the Shootings?

I know a Mormon who has told me of that particular prohibition, and has followed it sporadically at certain times of his life. So it definately exists. Whether it is widely followed is another matter entirely -- that friend of mine is much more likely to be found drinking a 64 oz super-gulp soft drink than a caffeine free beverage on most days.

Re: Whats with all the Shootings?

There are some people who choose not to drink it but there is no rule in the Church against it. Like any Church there are always members who take things to an extreme, make up their own "rules" and pass them off as Church doctorine.

To put it as simple as possible, if a person drinks Coffee, Tea, Beer, Smokes; it can impact their standing as a good member of the Church but drinking a Pepsi or Mountain Dew wont impact things at all or even be an issue. I drink Mt Dew like crazy... in fact I am drinking some right now!

Perhaps that's too "simple" for my poor mind to understand. Could you elaborate? What does "standing as a good member" mean? Why can you do those first 4 things and loose standing but Pepsi and Mountain Dew is ok?

Re: Whats with all the Shootings?

All that means is you are a member of the Church that is living according to the standards of the Church. Its very important for the members to be in good standing so that they can hold callings (Positions of which they work in the Church for free), ability to go to the Temple, and partake of the Sacriment of bread and water. The whole basis of this convo would be based on the "Words of Wisdom" which you can find here...

On topic I am one Mormon that packs heat! if you want to learn more about the LDS Church I suggest you check out LDS.org or start up a new thread on the subject.
