Re: Marines Investigate Puppy-Throwing Video

Being "thrown out of the military" has more repercussions than you might think...

Re: Marines Investigate Puppy-Throwing Video

Hehe.

A friend of a friend did time in Leavenworth. He said that he would flat out kill himself before ever going back there (if he ever had to for some reason). Ft. Leavenworth is hard time. The kind of place where they still make the prisoners do hard labor; there's no relaxing in the prison yard in Leavenworth. You get treated like absolute garbage there.

I'd get into the little things the military does to demean imprisoned soldiers, but suffice it to say that they don't have an easy time in Ft. Leavenworth.

And separating from the military with anything less than an honorable/medical discharge, and you've kissed your prospects at a decent life in the United States goodbye. A dishonorable discharge? That's the U.S. government branding you as a screw-up. Forget it. Get used to working at McDonald's for the rest of your life (and that'd be lucky).

Imagine asking for "permission to step" before each and every step you took going through a lunch line. Amusing to watch, annoying as hell to get stuck behind, especially when you're hunger .

Re: Marines Investigate Puppy-Throwing Video

Indeed, I heard about this. They had interviews with soldiers who had been on trial, most of who had been acquitted, and the guy I'm referring to was saying that he basically has no prospects at all left in his life, but I think worse can be said about the soldier's victims.

The good news: Troops are being punished for very bad treatment of civilians.

The bad news: It takes video and photo evidence which is stupidly taken by the few troops out there who are not only cruel and sadistic, but also don't have half a brain-cell.

My thoughts exactly. However, I wonder what the sadistic but clever ones can get away with?

However, what we all need to remember is that it's not all soldiers here. For the most part this is just their job and they carry it out how they're supposed to. But unfortunately, due to the way that people are employed in the military, it is easily possible for these types of psychos to come into the army, and unfortunately, it can happen quite a bit.

(Note: Not directing this to anyone if anyone thinks I am. just reading through the thread and one or two comments about how the whole of the military is evil. Just keep things in perspective here people. Also remember that sometimes, the orders that come down from the top aren't exactly always noble either.)

Re: Marines Investigate Puppy-Throwing Video

I myself was not on the verge of condemning the whole human race after watching the video. I have heard of and seen people do comparable acts of cruelty to many forms of life. When possible I take action that hopefully discourages that action again. I think a little hard time would not hurt these two idiots one bit.

The part that really disturbs me is these jerks probably did not even think maybe the dog did not die on impact. I have killed many animals from hunting to injured pets (cats ripped open by coyotes) and not once did I not make sure its suffering was minimal.

Personally I think it is disturbing that people get more outraged over a animals death than a humans. I would never think they should get the same fate as that puppy. However if the mother dog showed up just then and started mauling them I might let mother nature handle the situation.

Re: Marines Investigate Puppy-Throwing Video

I grew up around hunting, fishing, and farming. I've seen many deaths none of which I took personal joy in. I find the video and situation upsetting, but I find the use of my taxes to investigate the death of an abandoned animal even worse. Many people see worse everyday and think nothing of it. I think the individuals responsible should be punished more for their stupidity in representing the US in this manner than the actual act. This is right up there with the Roger Clemens investigation. Who in their right mind thinks it's a good idea to to waste government dollars deciding if an athlete cheated or not.

Re: Marines Investigate Puppy-Throwing Video

This is disgusting. We are supposed to monitor and help other nations, not act like the sadistic people that countries around the world view us as. If anyone ever threw my dog off a cliff, he'd be following it shortly thereafter. Completely unacceptable.

"Thou shalt not kill"

There is no room for debate, no clauses or exceptions, if you think some issues are too difficult to resolve in a peaceful manner then step away and let someone else deal with it - you're just not strong enough, accept that and move on.

No, there's no irony there. One is senseless and the other is for a purpose. They're not comparable.

And what purpose is that Cing? To bring peace and stability to the nation?

If you're looking for irony - there you have it.

Nobody's investigating the death of a stray dog. The investigation will dig into the cruel world of the US Marines. It will attempt to determine what other cruel actions have taken place, especially any directed towards other people.
