Re: New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer announces his involvement with a prostitution ring

Isn't the country broken down about 1/3 Dem, 1/3 Repub, 1/3 Independant? I would be surprised if 1/2 of TG went for any one of those types -- that would make us pretty slanted.

No...he still was knowingly engaging in human trafficking by arranging for her to cross state lines. But what they're probably going to get him on is what he always used to try and nail other people for: creating financial structures in order to obscure the purpose of these payments.

Re: New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer announces his involvement with a prostitution ring

Boy, Spitzer really screwed this one up. At least he's being honest about it instead of taking the weasel route ("These allegations are FALSE!") - then again, kindof hard to dispute the evidence here. I'm fascinated by these high-level, 'executive' prostitution rings though. I guess powerful people need powerful prostitutes - that or airport bathroom stalls, or churches..

Re: New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer announces his involvement with a prostitution ring

Powerful people need to not use cell phones, emails, addresses, or hotel rooms which are connected to their own names!

And sheesh... can't we just make prostitution legal already? Browsing through some of the legal documents at TheSmokingGun, I am struck by how normal everything was. If I didn't already know otherwise, I could have been tricked into thinking I'm reading the boring everyday internal documents of a national real estate agency. Except for all the stuff about sex :]

Re: New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer announces his involvement with a prostitution ring

He didn't use his own name. He registered the hotel room in the name of a friend, and didn't give his name to the prostitution ring. He's not stupid, the problem is that moving that kind of money secretly is tough, and he believed the call girl when she told him that giving it to a certain blind corporation would show up as a business purchase. The blind corp was the one under investigation.

He still presumably used his own personal phone and bank accounts! And presumably his own credit card to reserve the hotel room.

Spitzer spent much of his career sifting through emails, phone calls, and text messages for dirt. Idiota!

Re: New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer announces his involvement with a prostitution ring

Buzz around my office (I work for a state senator in NY) is that he's going to have to resign in order to prevent his rival Senator Bruno from becoming Governor. We think he's only delaying his announcement to work out a deal with prosecutors.

Re: New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer announces his involvement with a prostitution ring

That's nothin! In Chicago, a prostitute is more likely to have sex with a police officer than to be officially arrested by one :]

Didn't the reports about "client 9" specify that he refused to use the Emporer Club's normal bank transfer plan and insisted on paying in cash instead? I'd say he was pretty careful. He was eventually caught mostly because the Club's phones were tapped by the feds, so no matter how much caution he used on his own end, anyone talking to the Emporer Club would be overheard.
