Oh really? Libertarians run an ultra liberal paper? That's weird...

Huh, I grew up in NYC and was a religious reader of the Village Voice form a very young age. They are as bleeding heart as you can get. Just because they have snarky attitudes deosn't make them libertarians it just makes them typical NYC Democrats. Gay Rights, racism, welfare, police brutality, diversity, religious oppression, social oppression all very common and sympathetic topics. If you haven't noticed they have their lips firmly and unapologetically planted on Baracks rear end. Stop smokin that carbon man.

You know that the Village Voice was bought in 2005, right?

Besides, you know, I don’t care if Mike Lacey wants to run a kind of neo-libertarian paper down in Phoenix and say whatever he wants to say and do whatever he wants to do. But once he tries to take papers all over the country and make them all the same, you know, it’s kind of like the Borg. They sweep into town, they take over a paper, and they remold it in their own image so it’s exactly like all of the other New Times papers. If you go from city to city to city, you know, Denver, Phoenix, you go around, Houston and Miami, they all look the same. They all have the same voice. They all have the same tone. And that’s not good for the alternative press, and I would say that’s not good for the United States. It’s not good for progressive politics. This is not what the alternative press is about.

Wow, I didn't know they sold out and became a gentrified propaganda rag. Haven't kept up with that paper since moving out of NY. It was impossible to gain any kind of political perspective while living in the liberal incubator that is or WAS NYC. It took a move to Texas for me to evaluate my views sensibly. Similar to our protagonist actually. The Voice had the heartbeat of the city, maybe it still does, maybe the conservative politics of the city have mixed with the liberal roots and you have a libertarian uprising going on. Either way it seams like NYC has been sterilized and sold off and there is no more sexy left.

RIP
