Re: My Project: The Law Works Both Ways
We were in California and got tickets to see Jay Leno (JACKIE CHAN BABY!). We parked in a place and came back to a ticket. There was a red curb, but the sign said no parking between 9 pm and 9 am. (Jay is filmed at around 5 pm?)
I used my digital camera and took a series of photos. It started out far away showing our car at the red curb. Each picture (I think I took 5) slowly zoomed in on the sign that read no parking 9pm to 9 am. We mailed in the check, ticket and print outs of the pictures (we live in kansas so couldn't stay to fight it in court). About 2 months later we were mailed everything back. The ticket had been thrown out "in the name of justice" (exact quote) WOOT! ANother time, I tapped someone in behind. We were both stopped at a stop sign. I went to push myself farther up on the seat (I had slipped forward a bit) and my foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas. I got back to the brake, but not before I bumped them at 5 mph or less. They wanted a report I was given a ticket for 'innatentive driving' I went in to fight it or at least see if I could get it pleaded down. It wasn't that I wasn't paying attention, it was just a slip of the foot. Unfortunately, I got the ticket over Christmas break. My court date was the first day the court was back in session. The court was supposed to start at 9 am. At noon, they were still letting people get their tickets and go pay (the idiots who didn't do it in time). I was MAAAAAAAD. Why am I being held up because a LOT of people were too stupid to see that they were supposed to pay by a certain date? You could go up and talk to the prosecuter and work out a deal, but you had to talk to the judge if it involved an accident (which mine did, technically... psst.. 5 mph or less) Heck, the judge didn't even show up until 2 pm. So basically I ended up having to go pay for my ticket because by the time they even got started hearing cases, it was 3 pm. I couldn't stay longer. I was livid. VERY livid. If my ticket says 9 am for my court time. It should be 9 am. So it can go both ways. California saw the truth and reacted correctly. Mission, Kansas had its head up in a dark place.
