Armed America: Portraits of Gun Owners in Their Homes
http://funtasticus.com/20080313/arme...n-their-homes/
Some pretty pictures here, sure to generate some controversy. I could easily imagine many of these people being TG regulars.

Who cares what you can or can't think of? Honestly, I care more about a Llama's metabolic waste product... Who is anybody to judge how many guns a person should have? I will give you the answer, NOBODY. Do you own firearms? Have you interacted with firearms on a greater level then computer games? I'm betting that you haven't.... If you aren't in their position, or you haven't lived in their homes, then who are you do question what THEY need? You obviously know nothing of firearms, and are again like seemingly all of humanity, are afraid of the unknown... I would recommend you take some sort of introductory firearms class so you could be aquainted with these "Lunatic's", and be able to judge their character properly, along with gaining a proper understanding on how they work. But you live in a country where that option has been practicaly removed as an option. Guns are a culture, a way of life I guess, and people like them like anything else. It's an important part of their lifes, mine included. Each person is different, and has different interests. Just because a person is unfamiliar with a person's interest, doesn't mean it gives a person the authority to label them as "Lunatics". I only wish you luck in your life, and hope there IS a time when you can respect who these people are, and I hope there ISN'T a time were you could have benefited from one of those evil guns....

Re: Armed America: Portraits of Gun Owners in Their Homes
A most interesting trend develops in the thread that follows:
Those who see guns as nothing more than killing machines tend to think the people look like nut-jobs, and the pictures left-wing propaganda (or at least leftward slanted). Those who see guns as useful instruments or gun-owners tend to think the people look normal, and the pictures nothing more than normal people showing off their collection. Very interesting. Which one are you? Upon further examination and a viewing of the author's blog (http://armedamerica.livejournal.com/) I've come away with a different opinion: there are lots of the people the latter group who think the pictures are of the former description. Huh. I guess everyone has a different opinion. Last edited by section-8; 03-20-2008 at 08:11 AM. Reason: modification of opinion |

I almost posted but didn't, because while I was writing in full-tilt sarcasam mode, I realised that there would be a number of people here who would think I was serious, because the socialists have impregnated so many people with gun terror.
Anyway, this book seems very boring to me, because it's nothing more than a bunch of completely average, normal people.

Re: Armed America: Portraits of Gun Owners in Their Homes
One that worried me was the the virgin looking fat guy holding the bible and the handgun with a stupid grin. It looks like he still lives with mommy. Yowza.
The other fat guy sitting in the corner looking so dejected is also unsettling. He has .50 cal rounds? Hmmmm. Yes, stay away from me. Any of them that tried for the tough guy look. Give me a break. They end up looking like grade a Aholes. But most of them simply look like people enjoying their hobby. Good for them.

Re: Armed America: Portraits of Gun Owners in Their Homes
Some of the families sitting around showing off their guns reminds me of a lot of families I know. Some people simply collect more and more guns as a hobby. It's just fun to have the variety to shoot anything you are in the mood for. The first guy and his kid were kinda scary looking tho. I pity the fool who breaks into any of these people's houses.
I thought it was an interesting collection and since no one can absolutely decide whether this is pro-gun or anti-gun, I'd have to say it seems to be presented in a fairly non-biased manner. I also noticed that everyone seems to have their fingers off the triggers, chambers appear open, showing me that these people are educated somewhat when it comes to gun safety. It's amazing how many people do have huge gun collections and we still enjoy relatively low violence in the United States, considering the amount of easily accessible guns in this country. Interesting post.

Re: Armed America: Portraits of Gun Owners in Their Homes
The question is which one of these people will we see on the news in the not too distant future?
Number 2. Might but he seems that he has a nice home and does not have a weight problem so may not have a grudge, unless he is married and the wife(cant tell if he is married) leaves him and that may push him over the brink. Number 3. Now here we have major potential, i'd say he live in that room watching dvd's all day long fingering his beautiful weapons drinking his Jack Daniels, whispering to himself that his day will come. Number 4. Their home is so empty all the kid has to play with is a couple of plastic bricks and some high powered weapons. Their Christmas lights leave a lot to be desired. Number 5. Nice dog and poster for the NRA. She has nice legs. It would seem from the pic that they live in a very small house(from all the clutter). Wonder what the Russian and the Argentinian flag have to do with anything. Number 7. There is a man who is ready. (needs shoes) Number 8. Cletus and family. The dog looks scared outta his life. Luckily they also have a sword if one of the guns jam. (needs shoes too) Number 9. Two fat chicks who love lord of the rings return of the king which i found the weakest of the trilogy. These fat chicks a have loserdom written all over them their home is a mess prime candidates for that show where the two english birds come over and clean their house. Number 10 . Scary individual here, dresses in black has a shotgun and handgun slightly overweight not the smiley type, I sure wouldn't like to meet him in school or a shopping mall. Number 11. I hope for our sake sorry I mean your sake that the gentleman in this picture is not holding a bible. Loadsa guns and religion do not mix. Number 12. Safe as houses. He's got badges. Number 14. Fat lives alone plays computer games all day. Quite the collection of ammo, box of 50 cal I think on the floor there. Sits alone in that corner polishing his weapons. Most likely internet friends with number 10. Number 15. Bald. Looks like another one that lives alone in this very room he is photographed in there is even a fridge in it i would say the hum off the fridge would drive him mad. Some Hindu gods behind him probably lost faith in the one true God and went over to the other side, sees himself as the redeemer, most likely his name on the internet too. Number 16. Nice clothes a good wholesome family. So if you know the people from 3,10,11,14,15 make your excuses and try not to hang out with them. |

Re: Armed America: Portraits of Gun Owners in Their Homes
I think many people who don't own guns, but are not against banning them feel the only reason to own a gun is for personal/home defense and maybe some hunting or sport shooting. With that line of thought, those same people are not familiar with the difference in particular firearms and the uses for each. The rifle one might choose to hunt elk on a mountain in Colorado is very different than the choice for clearing rabbits out of your garden. The same would be true for target shooting at the local range, etc. I think the quantity of tasks which a specialized weapon is best can surprise those unfamiliar with or afraid of firearms. However, most of the large collections, look to be just that, collections of weapons no different than a melee weapon collection.
I'm personally envious of a few of those collections. I agree that the one guy that looks like he lives in mom's basement and clutching the Bible is a little unnerving. Firearms have enough of an image problem, they don't need that guy as a spokesman.

Way to judge people based on nothing but a picture, your opinions, and pathetic stereotypes.
