Re: Women in the military

Of course their is and this is a time where men dont pick up axes and swing anymore but rather rifles, Rifles dont require loads of strength to carry around and then fight with (shut up any armed forces guys) compared to a sword, shield and full armor (there we go...)

Why shouldnt women be allowed in? Id rather have them in the military than in office... (insert smiley here)

Re: Women in the military

Honestly, I have no idea how a woman would perform in the military. Would women crumble under the pressure? Would they shoot accurately? Do they have the strength to fight and perform necessary physical tasks?
I have no clue.

I do know though, that, as a fella, I'd be distracted by a woman. I'm not a pervert but when I'm fighting, the last thing I want to focus on is the ass of the person next to me. A guy's head naturally drifts this way: the first people I notice in a university class are the pretty girls. Denying that is just stupid and counterproductive -- any amount of attention taken off fighting is for the worse of the military in general.
And, honestly, I'd imagine the same goes for girls: I imagine they'd be distracted by attractive guys.

Re: Women in the military

I'd expect that being forcibly separated from exposure to women for an extended time would make that guy in the trench next to me look mighty attractive.

Re: Women in the military

None of this really matters because most modern militaries are steadily moving towards 'bots replacing humans. By the time we're all running around naked together in the barracks shower (ala Starship Troopers) there wont be human fighters.

Until then, I'm all for women in the military... but only because I'm against the double-standards of society today, and I believe our population needs more control (enter the artificial womb, monitored pregnancies, etc.). Militaristically it's a dumb idea though unless you have a serious need for excess troops (ala Israel). Face it, the male species makes better fighters (we're built for it)... so obviously we get recruited as such because the odds are in our favor.

In a future sense (to erase the double-standard) it'd be nice to have co-ed barracks and "inter-squad" relationships. Treat everyone equal and have at it. Let the women in as much as the men. Ironically, it'd probably cut down on sex. harrassment cases, rapes, etc. And help keep everyone's morale up.

Better physical in-your-face fighting, perhaps. Women make the better fighter when it involves a stab to the back, or when calculation is involved. Put a woman at an instrument panel for a modern weapons system and tell her her children are under fire and I'll bet she can out-fight any guy in the room.

They make better "field agents" for the CIA, that's for sure.

Re: Women in the military

There's at least one good reason to keep the military unisex: For reasons of economy, the military has usually found it useful to throw large numbers of soldiers into small cramped sleeping spaces together, with very little room to spare for privacy. Adding females to the mix complicates this procedure considerably.

We've gone ahead and made efforts to fit female soldiers in our armed forces anyway, but I believe they still aren't allowed in the jobs where space is most at a premium -- submarine duty.

Also, for all the advancements in automated fighting equipment, we still have a fairly significant infantry, and infantry is still as dependant on strength and physical fitness as it ever was.

Re: Women in the military

It takes 1 man 3 hours and good cologne to get 3 women pregnant. It takes 1 woman 9 months to poop out one baby.

Men are more expendable hence their roll in combat.

It has nothing to do with them being women, however. It is about our attitude toward sex (both the act and the gender) that makes the cramped living situation difficult.

And there are plenty of men that cannot do military duties assigned to them because they lack strength. I knew two guys in the navy that couldn't operate one of the plants throttles because they where weak.

Well now, I never said all men were good at the physical requirements of combat. That said, they do tend to be more likely to meet the physical demands of combat, thus much higher male enrollment in the infantry.

I think men are also more psychologically suited to combat, but I don't have any details or evidence to back that up at the moment. I will say though that the "but women endure childbirth!" argument doesn't convince me, because while they do endure it, no one said they had to remain cool or make any rational decisions during childbirth -- all they have to do is not pass out from shock.

Re: Women in the military

You have obviously never fought a women before in real life. A guy punches you in the face and pummels you. After that, he usually just make your life miserable for around 2 weeks.

Every woman i fought (not street fight but martial arts) are nastier when it comes to their attacks and do not surrender. They have no regards to what they hurt or what they attack. On the battlefield i seriously doubt people would go like "OHHHH MAN SHE'S HOTTT" When your life is on the line and bullet's are screaming past you, you forget about that kind of stuff pretty quickly.
