Re: Opinion article from local paper

Hand guns serve no purpose other than to kill human beings, you do not go hunting dear with a semi automatic 9mm pistol. they should have no place in the ownership of citizens.

rifles, i have heard people say they can buy a barret 50. cal as long as they are vetted properly. well sorry but unless you are hunting wild tanks you do not need a weapon of that calibre.

its the whole culture of people in america arming themselfs and evidentally it seems many of them arming under the guise of putting down a rogue government. yeah right militia thats a good reason.

i would say sure hunting rifles to be owned by law abiding citizens even we can get shot guns in the united kingdom and some hunting rifles. but making available the weapons of a military such as the m16 and m4, the barret 50. it isnt nessesary.

Re: Opinion article from local paper

Actually a friend of mine does hunt deer with a pistol. It's not that uncommon.

Who said anyone gets to decide what I "need". It's none of your business. That's our point, and that's the debate.

That guy ROX (pardon the pun )

The gov't has no place in restricting firearm ownership , other than from a legal standpoint of criminal record, etc. Other than that, there is no legitimate reason for there to be a blanket ban on guns period(pistols included)

No no no. While they were mainly designed to kill people, they have other uses.

BS. Owning a fast car is along the same lines. My pistols serve other purposes: entertainment (I go to the range regularly), self-defense, and collectability.

I don't need anything other than food and shelter. I want guns, 4x4 trucks, Law and Order on at 5 pm, The simpsons, and more Natalie Portman.

If I based my spending off only what I needed, I'd be a very unhappy man.

And English culture is bad teeth and horrible accents. Not to funny when someone pigeon-holes your country is it? Gun culture is not all America is about. The topic of guns comes up very rarely with my friends and we all are fans of guns. You've been watching too much biased news about "gun happy Americans."

You think gun-owners sit in their kitchens every night chewing dip and cleaning their rocket launchers? Some actually do (the kind I never want to meet). Some own guns for reasons you can't seem to fathom. My dad gave me his old .357 Magnum that he's had for over 30 years. Most beautiful gun I've ever seen. I plan to get a case for it so I can hang it on the wall.

My mom travels to Ohio (long drive) every year, alone. Bad idea, so she packs a 9mm Ruger for protection, observes all the laws for intervening states, and hopes she never has to use it.

Why not? Deprived of their full-auto capabilities: they are less dangeous than a good hunting rifle. You just defeated your own arguement. The .50 cal sniper rifle may be able to hole somone at 1 mile, but it's useless in any kind of stealth attack considering the shockwave it produces.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the whole DC sniper deal done with a standard .22 rifle? Perfect weapon for shooting unarmored targets: quiet without a lot of piercing capabilities. Nothing military about it. Sometimes simplicity is best.

I'm not asking you to support me at all
In case you've forgotten...you're on the wrong side of the pond to support me

yeah a bushmaster. "He was prohibited from owning a gun or approaching his ex-wife by the restraining order she obtained in 2000." (CNN story at the time)

Re: Opinion article from local paper

yeah big deal phyllis, you feel free to post all about our UK ban but again try to shut others up from expressing their opinion on your culture.

fenix, the culture and militia i was talking about is actually reffering to a TG thread a while back when alot of people were saying that the possibility of a rogue government is a readon to own guns. so your assumptions about our media isnt just crap its stupid.

further more i said the culture of people arming themselves. not the american gun culture. so dont try to make a point by taking a point out of context. ok pal

Heh...I received a snail-mail today from a Lt. Col.USAF(ret) thanking me for the letter...said the one he sent didn't get printed, but that his was alot more "mean, vicious, and sarcastic" than the editors probably wanted. Heh...mine was that way when it started...

Re: Opinion article from local paper

Hey Dudeman, take a chill pill man. Why do you always turn angry in your posts here? I don't know about any of the others but I personally am getting tired of your posts full of nothing but piss and vinegar.

On a side note, can anyone give justification for weapon bans without using nothing but pure emotions?
