I AM ANGRY AT SPECIFIC TIMES, not all the time... like when some guy posts nothing but sarchasm about another person in order to shut them up.

Might I remind you of the beginning of the second World War? When British troops were forced to train and fight with rifles donated by American citizens because so many Brits thought, "Yeah right, militia, that's a good reason..."

If you don't like our "gun culture" and you choose to ignore history, then I will feel less sympathy when history, as it inevitably does, repeats itself...

Re: Opinion article from local paper

actually cingular duality this is where your wrong. we had plenty of rifles for all of our troops, however when the maginot line was penetrated in france and the british expeditionary force was retreating across france follwed by the blitzkrieg warfare the order was given for a general evacuation of troops. the landing craft that were brining the troops back were pleasure craft mixed with navy craft. but the large vessels could not come ashore due to heavy bombardment and waters too shallow. therefore all weapons were left behind, most of the heavy armour trucks jeeps and rifles were left where they fell as thousands of soldiers were prized from the beeches at dunkirk.

that is why we had no rifles to train with.

but sure arm the populus so that you have back up armourments.

Re: Opinion article from local paper

oh and just so that you know, in case of confusion we still had enough rifles to arm our defensive troops who were strangely racked up in numbers. the decision was made that we were not about to go back into france until we were ready anyway so the rifles and armour we did have would be used by troops in the defense of the boarders.

dont paint the picture we were defencless and helpless because we were not.

Umm, OK, but how am I wrong? However it happened, your country felt the need to accept rifles from US civilians to arm the British army.

Look, it's not the only argument, but some very respected enemy military leaders have said outright that the United States weren't and will never be invaded due to our "gun culture". Our country is a lot younger than yours and it was founded by civilians that took up arms to stand for what they believed in. It is a part of our culture and I, for one, am damn glad for that.

Why do you say this? Someone else said this already. Tempus, I think. When Saddam was in power, firearms ownership was strictly regulated. Only certain people could own any type of gun. The flood of arms from military caches and neighboring countries into the general populace was probably helped along by terrorist factions.

Oh, and lets not forget the fact that the world's fourth largest army mysteriously shrunk when we moved in... All of those guns and uniforms have to be hiding somewhere...

My point was that there's a significant portion of an entire army that is missing. Their equipment is what is being used by these terrorists and insurgents in Iraq. This weaponry was not a result of a liberal gun control policy under Saddam's regime...

Re: Opinion article from local paper

Hmmmm,

we have 2 different opinions here about Iraq and its people here.

One from a college student that supposedly has a co-worker who is from Iraq....

and another from a person serving as a border agent whose job is to interview people coming into the United States, some of which are from Iraq....

Who seems more believable?
