I know clay pigeon or game shooting, is that the same there?
By auto, you mean semi-automatic, right? Fully-automatic shotguns would be restricted here by the NFA (like other machine guns)...

Why would someone want one? Well, for the same reasons someone might want a car with an automatic transmission... No need to rack a slide in between shots, or to break it open and reload after every other shot...

And yes, we hunt gamebirds here and enjoy the clay sports, mostly trap and skeet.

Shotguns are weirdly labeled:
Automatic does not mean you pull the trigger once and it fires multiple rounds. Automatic means when you pull the trigger the gun will automatically load another round. This differs from a pump shotgun. With those, you have to pump it, fire, then pump it again. Automatics use the recoil of the gun firing to load another shell (like how automatic pistols works: You load a round into the chamber, then you can fire until the clip is empty without pulling the hammer back again).

Re: Opinion article from local paper

Interesting poll from a liberal US Congresswoman from California: http://www.house.gov/susandavis/surv...ober_2004.html

I say interesting, because it intrigues me the way the poll ignores facts and focuses on emotions: Why would it matter if someone "thinks" the AWB reduced crime, when the facts show that it did not?

At any rate, I encourage everyone, regardless of whether you agree with my opinion or not, to tell this Congresswoman how you feel. Despite the biased poll, this is a good example of a politician getting a feel for what people think. Kudos to her for that.

I'd also wager it isn't an accurate assessment of the national opinion- clearly, it has been spammed.

Agreed. I don't understand why she didn't have people register with a name and address so that she could (theoretically) follow up and insure that only her constituents were voting in the poll.

Here's a good site that could prove that guns cause violent crime. I'm going to be following it closely to see what transpires...

Well gosh, the weapon isn't doing anything bad!

You know, I bet a nuclear warhead would look pretty boring just sitting there too. I've learned my lesson: so long as the owner is responsible, weapons are OK to have. Thanks for helping me reach my change of heart.

<GASP!> That was sarcasm????

I'm so disappointed in you... You stated the obvious and now I'm finding out that it was a sarcastic reply? Sigh...

Why would it be wrong for someone that is "responsible" to have a weapon?

That's a pretty hysterical and silly comparison.

I don't think so. I think that on a grand scale, that's pretty much how world leaders feel about large weapons, as well.
