All the kids i know who have shaved head either lost a bet, had a prank pulled on them, or got lice.

Re: Fighting
Im not a fighter and its been more then 10 years since I was involved in one. And by involved I mean my friends ended up in a scrap and I jumped in to help. One of my friends was in a bad position, the guy he was fighting had grabbed him by his hair and was reefing on it. I simply grabbed the guys wrist, used a manouver to make him release his grip, held this grip while looking at him for a few seconds to make him release that if I wanted to I could apply more pressure and henc pain/snaping and he decided to leave.
I just recently started doing Russian Martial Arts/Systema training beacuase, like I said Im not a fighter. I like the Systema approach as its very much a reaction to your opponent. So far all our training has revolved around avoiding being hit, freeing yourself from bad positions and counter attacks, no direct attacking. My instructor shows us several levels of force from simply avoiding to counter-stricking in a very direct way. Funny thing, we were training with a wood knife and he told me to attack him He then proceded to grab my knife arm, turn me inside out and backwards, slashed me with my own knife three times all the while I still held the knife in my hand. He's so calm and relaxed while doing it, scary.

Re: Fighting
Haha Yea Ive heard about that Systema stuff, always wanted to see it used in MMA fights or anything..
And to El Gringo, I just cant stand people that do that.. I understand what theyre thinking and processing through their mind but theirs a huge difference between Fight, Flight and Fright.. Fright meaning you curl up into a ball.. Here its always been (ever since I was little) if you run from someone theyre gonna chase you down and beat you 2x as hard, if you stand your ground and dont fight its gonna be normal and if you fight against them its either gonna be normal or like 1.5x as hard.. |

Re: Fighting
You might as well fight if you can and you know that they can't outrun them.

Re: Fighting
well even if you can outrun them.. If theyre in your part of the city then chances are youll see them again and I personally would rather stand and fight a giant than be in fear for my entire life.

Re: Fighting
I was forced into a few physical confrontations in High School for the obvious reasons: your average high school kid has no real moral compass and is working from a pecking order stand-point, hence those that aren't on the higher end of the social ladder will rely on physical or mental "man-handling" in order to improve their status.
But if you're engaging in fist fights past the age of 18, you seriously need to rethink who you're hanging out with and where you hang out. If you think fighting is cool, go join an amateur or pro fighting sport because throwing down with someone just because they ran their mouth is flat-out stupidity. Fighting because someone is threatening your life or wants to take something tangible is one thing, but resorting to blows over some twisted version of "Respect" or trying to relive some kind of juvenile fantasy is a good way to get yourself killed. I had an uncle go that route. Real tough guy until he beat up the wrong bar-fly, ended up dead from being stabbed, and buried out in the sticks. Oh yea, glorious way to go...

Re: Fighting
Very well put ^^
Oh and MMA usually doesnt allow the military type martial arts to be used. Systema for example isn't really a "sport" style and would be difficult to use in an MMA situation I think. Basically some martial arts styles are designed to effeciently take the other guy out in a life and death or at least life and extream danger situation.

Re: Fighting
Yea and I know what you mean but theyve also put marines and army guys on MMA shows, (one marine on the spikeTV MMA one got his ass handed to him by a smaller guy).. Sometimes they are good shows and put up a good fight/put down the competition.. and no theyre not allowed to instantly snap necks but they can still use more basic non lethal moves.

Most American military unarmed combat situations revolve around wrestling, with maybe a bit of boxing thrown in. And let's face it, you don't need anything fancy to beat a guy down. Most street fights end up on the ground at some point anyways, so being a solid wrestler is worth more.

Re: Fighting
Good points Fenix.
Systema is much more about self defence and countering attacks. It also focuses on knives and guns as well. An MMA fighter would not fall into the category that you would typically train for. I highly trained Systemist would be a formidable apponent for an MMA guy if there were no rules. Its an apples to oranges type thing.

Re: Fighting
Rather than fight, I became a psychologist. Now if someone wants to fight me I can talk to them about their mother and make them weep like a schoolgirl. It takes much less effort and is more entertaining.

Re: Fighting
I've never gotten in a fight, but I did end up wrestling at Texas UIL State in 2007 for high school, and did fairly well as a light 215 pounder, so I'm confident that as long as I was able to get the person on the ground I'd do alright.
