What you lack in clarity you make up for in brevity. Nonetheless, I don't know what you're trying to say.

It is doing fine for me. I'm able to do the stay at home dad thing. My wife is a civil engineer. She designs roads/interchanges. There ALWAYS seems to be new construction needed.

"It's a bypass. You have to build bypasses!" -- construction worker explaining to Arthur Dent why he's about to bulldoze Dent's house, just before the Vogons destroy Earth to make way for a hyperspace bypass.

Let's not take this to a leejo/steeler level, but I can't comprehend how you can't see that groceries are cheaper than eating out. Can you name me a single meal that is cheaper in a restaurant than if you prepared it at home?

Oh, and I'm doing great. My TSP account (401k, basically) has taken a hit, but I bought a house in January, my bills are lower than when I was renting a small shack, I work in an industry that is very stable and is very hot right now, and I'm considering buying a hot tub to be installed just outside my bedroom. Life is good.

A lot of people bring this up when I tell them how I do my meals. :P

The simple fact of the matter is that if there's food in the house, I'll eat it. And I'm not necessarily talking about meals, I'm talking about constant snacking/nibbling/etc. I'm a skinny dude with one of those miracle metabolisms, so I can eat all day and not really worry. If I eat out (and I'm not talking $20 per meal eat out, closer to $6/7), I only eat twice a day on average. The few times that I've actually stocked up on groceries, I easily spent double or more on food for the week due to the fact that I was constantly eating. :P

OMG you turds are the worst. I had a roommate the same way in college, it was amazing the amount of food and snacks he ate but never gained a damn pound as he sat on his ruckus playing video games (oh, and we did study sometimes and occasionally go to class). It's not fair I say!

So don't buy snackable stuff. Keep cuts of raw meat, herbs, spices, oils, milk, veggies, etc...

Sure, if you buy cold cuts, dry cereal, chips and crackers, you'll be snacking all the time. You're not going to fix a box of Hamburger Helper for that kind of snacking, though, are you? (BTW, most Hamburger Helper meals are 100x better if you cut up a decent cut of beef instead of hamburger!)

I'm another one you can hate. Except that I don't have a huge appetite, either, so even when I'm snacking, I'm not putting away a ton of food.

I like some fast food, but I don't tend to eat a lot of it, as I hate the driving necessary to get it. I'd rather stock up groceries and just grab what I want from the fridge. When I do get fast food, I might get a bigger order and spread it out over a couple days. For example, I'll get the 7-strip meal at Wing Stop and heat half one day and half the next. Or I'll get a foot-long Subway and eat 6 inches at a time.

I recently found at Costco some nice blue cheese impregnated cooked Angus patties. I pick up some buns at the grocer and make burgers at home now. I coat the patties with Worstershire and toss in a hot pan with a little canola for 2 minutes each side and I'm good to go. (The Worstershire is largely vinegar and molasses, so it gives a nice carmalization to the burger.) I keep shredded cheddar in the freezer for tacos and such so I toss some chunky blue cheese dressing on one bun and a pile of shredded cheddar, and some condiments on the other bun. Delish.

Re: How is the economy doing for YOU?

I'm a twenty two year old single male in good health and I commute by bike, so for the most part I haven't gotten hit too hard. Though the prospect of finding a job that pays more than minimum wage is a bit daunting. And food is getting a bit more expensive. I eat like a pack of wolves.

Sounds good. Especially eating meat instead of the burnt stuff that you tend to get in restaurants.

No kidding. Home cooked food is VASTLY superior to most the garbage you get at restaurants (unless you cook like my Yankee mother). I have yet to eat at a steakhouse that can grill half as good as I can. Another good reason to eat in more.

With the liability fears, you just can't get anything rarer than medium these days, and I like my meat slightly bloody and pink at the center.

There are a few places around where I live where you can get a really good meal for 3-6$ a person. Generally, that's still more expensive than a meal made at home, but if you're short on time or a miserable cook it could be worth it. Local restaurants are win.

Where are you eating at? I haven't been to a restaurant ever where I can't get a steak medium-rare. If you're talking hamburger, that's a different story, and yes, it IS dangerous to eat that stuff anything rarer than medium.
