Re: Can you hear this?

I hear it just fine. Sounds like one of the tones you get on a hearing test. I'm probably due for a hearing test seeing how I'm Older.

Re: Can you hear this?

hmm... now let's try the one that was DLed from the site. Make sure your volume isn't too high, because it can be pretty annoying...

I can hear it - 23

Cing's spent too much time on the range. I can hear it. I'm 37. Is that young or old?

There was a story about this on NPR Friday. A guy invented the Mosquito Teen Repellant that emits a high pitched tone that many adults can't hear at all but which drives teens nuts. A guy installed it as his shop to drive away some hoodlums.

Now it's being marketed as a ringtone for kids to text message each other in class without the teacher noticing.

Edit: apparently I'm "older" and life stops at 45.
haha I remember watching that on cnn. It's funny about it being turned around as ringtone, although I can't imagine it being that effective unless your teachers are in the 50-60 range.

Re: Can you hear this?

Does this thread have anything to do with this ringtone?

For the non-link-clickers:

The kids call it Teen Buzz, and it's spreading it from phone to phone via text messages and Bluetooth.

Re: Can you hear this?

Yes, actually. I'm trying to replicate it with my own sources. For the 2nd one, to get it's true sound, you may want to put it on an MP3 player. My mother cannot hear anything, and she thought I was toying with her.

I also posted it here on the STEAM forums:

I can hear that one just fine. And now that I turned my speakers up, I can hear the first one fine, too. Definitely not the right frequency for what you're looking for...

Oh, and Leejo, most of my hearing loss is low frequency....

Re: Can you hear this?

depending on the frequency, it could be an issue w/ your speakers... if it's really only 8kHz, then it's more likely a problem w/ your ears
