Oh, and Leejo, most of my hearing loss is low frequency....
Really? Weird.

My grandfather has had tinitus since WWII from the artillery. He's slept with the radio on ever since so he doesn't lie awake listening to his ears ring.

Anyway, most people lost their high frequency hearing first. Colds, loud noises, wives...

No, no, that's different. It's called a notch filter (or a nag filter). It only blocks specific sounds, regardless of the frequency.

Re: Can you hear this?

Download Audacity and generate a new tone set at 18Khz with an amplitude of 2.5-4. That's the ticket... Oh, and I heard your mp3 and I'm 'old'

Set your 'ringtone' to 19 Khz w/ an amp of 4. Maybe your phone will play it

Re: Can you hear this?

I can hear both-18.
I test and install audio systems in vehicles and I have tested my own frequency range. I can hear between 23kHz and 18 Hz, I can feel tones between 250Hz and 5 Hz, I hope this extra info can help your studies.

Re: Can you hear this?

Yeah, 23Khz is insanely good hearing. It is about 1000 Hz above the most sensitive human audition... You sure you're just not hearing the line power there or auditory memory tinnitis? If not, I dub thee Ultrasonic Man.

Re: Can you hear this?

I heard both of them just fine. I'm always hearing high pitched noises (not that my ears are ringing, it's just different stuff buzzing). My printer makes a noise all the time, but I think I've gotten used to it. When I plug my mp3 player in to charge, it makes a high pitch noise, and by the time it's done charging, I just about can't take it anymore. It's a relief when I get it unplugged. Also, I can't take it when TVs are turned to an input source, and there isn't anything playing on it. On some tube TVs, I can hear a high pitch even if there is something playing on it. I'd like to test my hearing range, because I have pretty good hearing. Sometimes I'll hear things that my dog doesn't... but that may just be because she isn't paying attention .. tho, she's pretty jumpy, so that may not be the case.

I'm 19, btw

Oh, I hate the sound of electronics being charged, or a TV that is left on but not playing. Drives me crazy!

"The human ear can respond to minute pressure variations in the air if they are in the audible frequency range, roughly 20 Hz - 20 kHz."

Some can detect more, some can detect less, but I guess I am lucky.

That's really weird. I'm the opposite. I heard the first clear as day, but the second one I couldn't hear unless I turned my headphones way up, but then after a few seconds I couldn't hear it anymore even when I turned it up higher.

This is fascinating.

I'm 21.

Any information on if gender may be a variable also?

I'd like to hear more about the results, to see if there's a clear correlation between age and tone deafness, etc.

Hmmm and the winner is....

Oh and I could hear the first one just fine and the second I could barely hear. I blame the Navy for any hearing loss though was a Sonar Tech for 6 years. All I did was listen...listen...listen with headphones on to broadband noise or active frequencies...LOL!

I am HMMM 2006 take away ...carry the one add a decade minus a beer...35.
