I see this argument in many places every year, we had nothing to do with any of it, all I care is that the Nazis were bastards, and, that amongst the genocide and tyranny, they blew up my Grandfather's house.

This is technically true; technically the Boston Tea Party, Boston Massacre and all actions that were taken in the Americas before the US constitution were done by the British to the British. +bump 7 days until i post a nice tribute to the men who participated in D-Day (it took place in occupied France). And to this day the French resident in the Normandy Area are very thankful towards the allies, and to american's/veterans.

This is historically backwards. It should read - Dear Soviet Union: If it wasn't for your help we would be speaking German. The Soviets, who lost nearly 22-28 million people during WWII should be generally credited for, as Churchill stated, tearing "the guts out of the German Army". The US assault on Normandy would have been impossible without Kursk and Stalingrad. A higher percentage of German divisions were positioned on the Eastern Front than in the West. Without watering down the heroism of US troops, it's the Red Army who should largely get credit for defeating Nazi Germany.

The Soviet Union lost 22-28 million people because their leader didn't give a **** about them, practiclly sent them on a death march. While they did distract the Nazi Regime and Hitlers short conquest the US and UK (along with Canada, yes) probably did just as much as the Soviet Union..

Then why was the Soviet Union already well on its way into Poland, having won both of the major war-turning victories, by the time D-Day went off? The US invasion did nothing but prevent the Soviets from taking the continent.

So are you thinking that the D-Day landings weren't a major turning point for the allies? The Soviets were pretty well weakened by the time they got to Poland, their economy was in shambles, their morale was pretty crazy.. I cant even imagine what an average citizen would be thinking back then. I'm not saying that Germany would've taken back the mid-eastern Europe area if D-Day wasn't a success but D-Day was a pretty significant turning point for the (US, UK, Canada) Allies...

(sorry if anything I said doesnt make sense, slightly tipsy)
