John Kerry supports MANDITORY service..

Here is an except from an archive of John Kerry's web site:

Quote:
Part of 100 days Plan to Enlist One Million Americans in National Service A Year

On September 11th, 2001, America experienced the most terrible and deadly attack in its history. John Kerry believes we need to think big and do better and get more young Americans serving the nation.

As part of his 100 day plan to change America, John Kerry will propose a comprehensive service plan that includes requiring mandatory service for high school students and four years of college tuition in exchange for two years of national service.

You've got to love those Democrat spinsters making Americans believe that Bush wants to bring back the draft after the elections when John Kerry supported something even MORE drastic than that before the height of the campaign season.

Actually, Congress just shot down the "draft" bills that were proposed by Democrats. How in the world has this stuff been spun around to being the President's idea?

Dude... that's community service. Not the draft.

No state would be obligated to implement a service requirement if the federal government does not live up to its obligation to fund the program.
And the other part... don't we do that already? The GI Bill, I think it's called, isn't it? Something like that anyway.

Cripes, talk about a spinjob.

I think the title of the thread is "John Kerry supports mandatory service" not "John Kerry wants to draft you for war".

The fact that the Democrats introduced bills to bring back the draft is another type of mandatory service.

Re: John Kerry supports MANDITORY service..

I don't want mandatory anything. I used to think mandatory service (military or otherwise) might be a good idea, but once I got my head around the massive bureaucracy that it would take to run something like that....no way. Not to mention that the Gov't mandating anyone to spend some of their life doing what the Gov't feels is right just makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Sounds too much like Socialism to me.

Isn't the US setup as a country protecting freedoms, one of which is choice?

On the same token, we don't say "give us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses" so we can leave them on the front porch. The country has many ideals.

I'm sorry, but you completely lost me on that one. What's your point?

My point is that having a basis in freedom and having a basis in seeing your fellow man get ahead are both ideals the nation possesses, and that sometimes ideals clash, for better or for worse.

The US was established where everyone could have a chance to make their lives better, it wasn't setup to force people to make other people's lives better.

Re: John Kerry supports MANDITORY service..

it is simple really whether it is the military or not, if you are forced to do something, you will not put your heart into it.

it is the reason especially for military service, that mandatory enlisting is wrong.
