Re: Piracy
Another wonderful thing that will make piracy much more attractive.
Starting in 2013 all bluray (and maybe dvd but I am not sure) will remove the "analog hole". This means that every piece of equipment that those players connect to must support the HDMI security stuff.
So, have an old TV you want to watch your content on? Sorry, can't do it. Have an old receiver that you want to play the audio through? Sorry, can't do it. Because if you own old equipment you must be a pirate and you don't deserve to consume what you have purchased.I’m not racists, I have republican friends. Radio show host.

The future of movies is cybernetic implanted memory. And I doubt the Borg have DRM hardware in their heads.

Re: Piracy
Here's an example of the perverse outcome of the DMCA:
http://www.eff.org/cases/blizzard-v-bnetd
At issue in this case was whether three software programmers who created the BnetD game server -- which interoperates with Blizzard video games online -- were in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and Blizzard Games' end user license agreement (EULA).
BnetD was an open source program that let gamers play popular Blizzard titles like Warcraft with other gamers on servers that don't belong to Blizzard's Battle.net service. Blizzard argued that the programmers who wrote BnetD violated the DMCA's anti-circumvention provisions and that the programmers also violated several parts of Blizzard's EULA, including a section on reverse engineering.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and the firm of Day Casebeer Madrid & Batchelder served as counsel for defendants, arguing that programmers should be allowed to create free software designed to work with commercial products because it benefited consumers and helped promote innovation. The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals disagreed, holding that reverse engineering and emulating the Blizzard software were illegal.
Outcome: The reverse engineering and emulating of the Blizzard software violated the anticircumvention provisions of the DMCA. This ruling has been widely criticized as making it impossible to create new programs that interoperate with older ones and squeezing consumer choice out of the marketplace by essentially allowing companies to outlaw competitors' products that interact with their own.Dude, seriously, WHAT handkerchief?

Rofl I can see now how awesome their hive mind would work with intellectual property laws! There is a hilarious geek-sketch in that idea
. Borg 1 to borg 2: "Hey stop thinking my thought or I'll send you a takedown notice". Borg 3: "Hey that's my idea, stop it or I'll ... Pretty soon they are all just sitting around mentally suing eachother while Picard is boldly facepalming away where no-one has facepalmed before without any fear of assimilation. Thinking is futile!

Re: Piracy
Apparently they are doing it to save pc gaming, I heard in a reaction to the DDos attack that took them down. How cute.

Sort of like how Modern Warfare 2's IW.net was supposed to "streamline" the game's multiplayer experience.

http://www.neoseeker.com/news/12855-...erver-support/
So how does locking down a game server protect the game from pirates?
I do recall them punishing server operators who ran BF2 servers that unlocked all the weapons. It's a bit like punishing people who use a highlighter in the textbook they purchased. (This is why I stopped buying DICE/EA games after BF2. I'm not going to support a publisher that doesn't support independent server operators. There are plenty of other games I can blow my money on.)Dude, seriously, WHAT handkerchief?
