actually yes it does, reguardless of your driving capabilities, if you are on a public road and speeding there are several things that you will not be able to do as well as others. breaking for example is almost doubled with relativly small speed increases, but more dangerous than that is the stability of your car in an emergency.

you will have more chance of a controlled safe stop if you have a blowout at 70 than if you had one at 120.

at 70 you could quite easily grip the roads and pull to the hard shoulder above that you will have more difficulty and risk possible serious injury.

reguardless of any of that speed restrictions are in place to protect the other road users who are driving with repect for each other, so just repect those laws or get out of the car. want to speed go to a track day.

yes we all speed i am not going to say i dont, but to make it against the law to stay somewhere, where you are totally legal with reguards to speed and driving and have to move out of criminals way is ludicrous.

either decide to make an autobarn or expect your citizens to follow th damn law.
Well, I though all those people on the road were merely absent-minded. It never crossed my mind that they might be idiots actually trying to illegally slow down traffic on a 5 lane highway...

Re: Things that you're sick of...

Who but an idiot, and a violent idiot to boot, would use a car as a weapon to enforce his understanding of vigilanty justice, picking and choosing which laws to obey and disregard as he pleased?

Funny how often such people are among the slowest on the road. It's like the couple who attended their son's graduation from West Point and commented "look, everyone out of step except for our son!"

absent minded, dont make me laugh, if you think that being absent minded is an excuse for speeding then i really think you need to pay attention when you drive.

i know exactly when i am speeding, and when i am doing the limit. then again i guess in London you have to have that extra sense whilst driving because of the amount of speed cameras with fixed penalty fines.

Re: Things that you're sick of...

There are some technologies with possible speed-controlling applications in the work that I've heard about. Some employers use telemetry to know where their fleet is and to monitor employees' driving behavior. Some insurance companies have implemented trial programs in which devices monitor driving behavior. All of this seem promising.

I won't ague that there's a big difference between the consequences of a mistake made at 30mph and 70 mph or 140 mph. But speed is only one factor in auto safety. The mindset that tells someone that it's ok to use his car as a roadblock - to make a point in what amounts to a high-speed and dangerous debate about whether he should move over or the other guy should slow down - is another factor. It's aggressive driving, and that's another issue that authorities here are looking into. It causes a lot of pain and suffering too.

yeah well the mindset of the prat who thinks he can double the speed limit because he is late for work and still believe he is relativly safe driving is also a factor. only difference is the guy you mentioned stands a better chance of survival in an accident.. the twat i am talking about stands less of a chance, big deal but more importantly stands more of a chance of injuring the guy in the other lanes who are abiding by the law.

I know, and I've even been following the conversation, but when I read the "things your sick of" title, then came in here and remembered where we were, it just hit me that ppl complain about hijacking threads..... my refusal to add a smiley to anything doesn't help I'm sure.

I was referring to the nincompoops that refuse to move to the right if they're traveling slower than the flow of traffic. THOSE morons are the ones that I thought were simply absent-minded. I really had no idea that they might be doing it intentionally...

So if I am driving 70 mph in a 55 mph, it doesn't matter that the road is completely deserted, the driving conditions are ideal, my car is in pretty good shape, and I have my attention fully concentrated to my driving and the surrounding environment, I am "driving in an unsafe manner"?

Please, how is that unsafe driving? I have seen people driving the "speed limit" and driving in a reckless manner.
