Our speed limits depend on the road. Different states, counties and cities determine what the speed limit will be on any particular stretch of road. Half of my commute is 70mph highway(this is where the 55mph idiots in the left lane get my blood pressure boiling), while the other half is 60mph highway and 35mph surface streets.

thats an entirely different kettle of fish, i have said from the start that as long as you are doing the limit you are fine, if they are slower than the limit i agree move over grandad ive got to get to work.

And I've said from the start that the speed limit doesn't matter. It's illegal and dangerous to have drivers trying to enforce their own speed limits by blocking traffic behind them!

and as i have said the prat tearing down the motorway who looses control through this lack of concentration you mentioned before is just as dangerous and if you have a limit, illegal.

No matter what the speed limit is people generally drive 5-10 over. The anal type A in the hammer lane doing exactly the limit staring in his mirror and the speeders behind him proving he is better than everyone else is the major reason for traffic jams in my opinion. I can generally go faster than the fast lane by going in the far right lane and passing the occasional sensible slow driver (sensible because they are courteous) because everyone is clogged up in the fast lane behind some jerk.

Exactly. Traffic flow would be much smoother if people would just drive correctly instead of trying to illegally enforce the law themselves...

both are illegle so no complaints on either side, apart that is from the complaints comming from the people who dont know what speeding that 10 mph can do.

Re: Things that you're sick of...

I just try to go with the flow. If the flow is the speed limit, that's how I drive. If you try to drive the speed limit in just about every major metripolitan area in this country, you're in for a dicey ride. If you drive the speed limit in the fast lane, you're an *******.

On pretty much every major road the "flow" speed is 5-10 mph above the speed limit.

I learned to drive in California (and my mother owns a driving school there) and they have a law that is pretty much the same as you just described. The California Basic Speed Law was enacted so that people would "go with the flow". You can't get a speeding ticket in California for driving the same speed as everyone else as long as you don't exceed the state maximum speed limit. So, if the posted speed limit on small 2 lane highway is 45 mph and traffic is flowing at 55 mph, you can't be cited for speeding if you're traveling with the flow of traffic, but you CAN be cited for obstructing traffic if you're traveling 45 mph and you've got more than 5 cars lined up behind you! Great law, btw...

then why bother having a speed limit at all. you have two laws totally contradicting one another, just because the laws exist does not mean they are right or even make sense.

This forum is proof that many things that exist aren't right or make sense. Some of our members are that way!

I don't see the laws contradicting each other. As many of us have been saying in this thread, the law says that slower traffic should yield to faster traffic by moving to the right. It doesn't comment on the faster traffic's speed.

it contradicts because you set a maximum speed limit, then you penalise someone for traveling at that maximum and do sod all for someone who breaks the maximum and changes the flow of traffic.

maximum means the most, it does not mean the most unless you are a little late, and to allow in law someone to do the maximum plus more because they feel like it is a contradiction of legislation.

forget the stupid notion you have that every person who takes the limit as the limit, as a vigilante, speed limits are there for a reason.

Well that's your opinion. If the cop pulls you over and lets the other guy go, you can explain it to him but police enforce one law and ignore another all the time. When's the last time you saw someone pulled for not using a turn signal? That's a law too.

It would be counted against them in a court of law if they were involved in an accident and failed to indicate properly.
