That's why I love living in this country. It's perfectly OK to slag off the government, the country, the culture, the people, the monarchy or anything else and no one gets on their "more patriotic than thou" high horse.

We know the monarchy is out dated and old fashioned, we are proud of our modern and healthy democracy, yet the large majority of people want to keep the monarchy.

To answer your question, I am proud of my country's heriatiage but at the same time I will continue to laugh at it and deride it. I would encourage you to laugh at my country and your own. Does that make any sense?

Yes it does, but I personally feel differently. It's kind like jokes about my mother. I might joke about her, argue with her, dislike her, but don't you dare say a single negative thing about her or I'll kick your ass... Y'know?

at the end of the day, you are an outsider judgeing my country based on yours, you may say that is not what you intended to do ,but it is all you can do. thats what Humans do they compare based on their own experiences.

and without full understanding of the monarchy, i just dont think calling them merely celebrities is fair, and it is an insult.

on th other hand, had a British person said it, well ok i cant say much because they live here and its their country. i still find what you are saying wintermute a bad judgement. Being Patriotic is what seperates a Britsh man from a European man, and i think our culture heratige and all else should be put infront of people for them to see. to keep us from just turning into the shambles that is european community. keep the pound, keep the queen, less power to brussels more power to westminster.

i enjoy the rich multicultural society we have, but i must say some of the most patriotic people i know are the 2nd generation imigrants and the rest of us are taking what we have for granted.

Re: Right Royal Blunder

In theory, your Queen is also my Queen. So do we have the right to make fun of the monarchy.... because we do.

It appears that fascism is alive and well in the EU, and there are still people willing to stand up to it...
