A PBS spokesman said late Tuesday that the nonprofit network has decided not to distribute the episode, called "Sugartime!," to its 349 stations. She said the Education Department's objections were not a factor in that decision.

"Ultimately, our decision was based on the fact that we recognize this is a sensitive issue, and we wanted to make sure that parents had an opportunity to introduce this subject to their children in their own time," said Lea Sloan, vice president of media relations at PBS.

Sounds right to me.

Actually, I'm quite specifically targeting the people who put George Bush into office with my head hanging, though it's not THEIR morals I'm bemoaning; it's Bush's morals (and of course by extension, those of the people in his cabinet).

I'm not trying to generalize Republicans/conservatives/religious right aside from the fact that I think the guy they helped put into office is "special". :P

"Congress' and the Department's purpose in funding this programming certainly was not to introduce this kind of subject matter to children, particularly through the powerful and intimate medium of television."

She asked PBS to consider refunding the money it spent on the episode.

You know that if the education secretary didn't pipe up that episode would've gone on the air without a hitch. PBS is playing the PR game, nothing more. As for expressing her opinion... well, her opinion happens to carry a great deal of weight; people in positions of power need to exercise restraint when expressing their opinion. GHW Bush expressed an opinion on broccoli and and a monthlong mediastorm came of it.

I'm unable to find the article I had on that topic, so I'll just concede it. Too bad, was a great read.

But I will offer that killing another human (for the majority of us), goes against our mental impulses. Killing (without reason) is generally not acceptable in any cullture. Procreation (or just plain sex) is generally acceptable (unless you're Catholic).

I can block channel 14 (the one with the ugly lady telling me to give all my money to God when she has enough jewelry on her to fill Fort Knox) so I don't ever have to watch it. "Shoving God down my throat" would apply to forcing Christian prayers in school (funny how they won't fight for Muslim or Buddhist prayer).

Next they'll claim Fox is "forcing stupid down your throat" by airing "Fear Factor" or "American Idol."

you misunderstand me, i said a 4 yr old, i dont have a kid. (thank god for condoms and the pill) but my sister has 2 kids, one 7 and one 4.... now even the severn year old does not need to know about sex that young, at the age of 12- 13 maybe, (lots of kids are getting pregnant early....) if it was a sexual education video which was designed to teach kids in school and it mentions same sex relationships, you know what good luck to you, you are ngaging children whne they are most able to make their own decision and you are helping make a tolerent future.

but dont go shuving this stuff down little kids throats just because you want to make a people tolerent.

i do agree with viewing kids tv though, unfortunatly its extremly hard to do, i rememer when i was that young i would sit infrint of the tele while my mom would do house hold chors, now how can she know exactly what im seeing when she has to do the cleaning... it is impossible to know all the time and i thought we had agencies to stop this.

actually this is wrong, in a pack of lions there is one male lion in charge, the dominant one, he mates with other lions and produces babies. now a rival to the dominant lion will actually kill the babies of the dominant male and then mate with the female.

it also happens in other animals, and also, in one case (cant remember what is was) when a baby reaches a certain level of maturity it becomes fair game in the eyes of its own parents.

mackerel when the spawn is small the larger fish, (its parents and others) try to eat them, thats why fish of all sizes bunch together for security.

Wouldn't those animals that DO kill their own NOT be special if more animals killed their own than those that don't?

If that's true, doesn't is support Fenix' claim?
