Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. Note what I said, lead not make.

Everyone of us has bacteria/viruses in us all the time but our immune systems fight them off all the time. However, when you do something to your immune system (like lower the body's core temperature), the effectiveness of your immunity to fight the bacteria/virus decreases. Dressing warmly insures that your core temperature does not get to a level where your immunity starts to lose its effectiveness.

There have been times I have gotten sick before and I wasn't around people. Or if I was, I was breathing in their air the entire time before I went outside and worked in the cold. The only difference was that I wasn't in a warm environment the entire time. Now, I never claim that just being out in the cold will make you sick, but it can lead to sickness, especially if you have lots of viruses in you already.

Cold by itself doesn't make you sick but if you weaken your immunity system that has been up to a point, fighting the disease, you can become sick.

Right, but that doesn't happen by being uncomfortably cold. That only happens when you're on the verge of freezing to death...

In other words, it has no bearing on this particular discussion, as it wasn't that cold and we're talking about the Vice President wearing an appropriate overcoat instead of a military parka...

It sure sounds to me like you're confusing correlation and causation... Being uncomfortably cold, simply chilly, will NOT increase your chances of getting sick. That's simply an old wives' tale and I refuse to let it be said without pointing out that it's bunk.

Re: Media trying to create a story ?

My suspicion was that the difference given me would be invalidated by what Cingular would eventually say.

Creepy how that turned out like I suspected.

I'm curious to see if someone will counter Cing's claim that the cold we're discussing here, in the situation we're discussing, will not make you ill and will not weaken your immune system.

If that is not disproven, then I'm forced to conclude that there was no difference, within the context of this discussion (which is what I was asking for, give the possibility that I don't know English, as one might deduce having read the answer to my query), between cold making you ill and leaving you susceptable to illness. Neither is a concern?

Re: Media trying to create a story ?

Being cold stresses the body and makes it less able to fight infections and disease. Children play together all summer long, swim in the same pools, etc., without getting sick. When their bodies get stressed the same crap has a better chance of gaining a foothold.

I forecast a pending conflict of mere opinions and factless claims.

Perhaps those presenting arguments should next reference credible sources other than themselves in their effort to convince the reader.

According to my mother, being cold stresses the body and may cause illness.

She also says you're a jerky doodoohead.

Here are some other, less reputable, sources:

http://www.usariem.army.mil/depyugo/coldw.htm

Soldiers in the Battle of the Bulge had a horrible time with pneumonia and other illnesses. They DREAMED of being huddled up indoors, so that couldn't have been the cause.

Pffft....

Leejo's army page and his reference to The Battle of the Bulge are situations where the cold weather itself is life threatening. "Uncomfortably cold" is not the same thing as "literally freezing to death cold".

Re: Media trying to create a story ?

what's his name said that cold weather adds to the likelihood that you will get sick. You and others keep showing how cold weather doesn't cause colds of the flu. Both can be true. There are other ways to be sick. Pneumonia. Butt cramps. Whatever.

Colds, flu, pneumonia, whatever... The fact is that cold weather doesn't cause bacterial or viral infections. Bacteria and virii (this plural form of virus was invented and accepted after electronic viruses became common, does it now apply as the plural form for a traditional virus?) cause these infections. Going outside with wet hair doesn't do it. Having a numb nose doesn't do it. Not being able to feel your ears doesn't do it. Being uncomfortably cold does not make you sick. Period.

Butt cramps, on the other hand, are not an illness and can be caused by the cold. I remember singing in our Xmas program at school in second grade. This is in San Diego, but the temperature that evening was down in the 40s or 50s. Well, our school had a huge sunken concrete courtyard that had enough steps around it that the entire school could sit on the steps of half of the courtyard for school assemblies and programs like this. Those concrete steps were sooooo friggin cold... I got butt cramps because this California boy was wearing just a pair of jeans that didn't do much to insulate my butt from that frigid concrete. It was kinda funny seeing all the other kids walking funny after we all got up, though...
