The new $20 is harder to counterfit with todays home office equipment...thats why they made it...

Because currently...

With some 30/40 cotton paper and a professional Dye-sub printer, I could pay for a road trip to California and back.

Nope, the security features are the same as our last bill, and the addition of two additional colors will not have an effect on the quality of dye-sub or even inkjet printing... The addition of the colors will confound press counterfeiters, though...

BTW, next time we get together in person, ask me about my adventures in Tijuana immediately after the "old new" $20 bill began circulating...

Well, it's now a LOT harder to make a high quality fake bill...

It just didn't make it any harder to make low quality fakes...

My concern isn't with the color, but with the fact that they spent US$10million to advertise the colorchange.

10 million dollars...to advertise MONEY. Like you weren't going to use it anyway.

Well...spose it would be a little surprising to all the sudden be at a checkout or something and have this "different color" funny looking $20 be handed to ya.

Seems kinda silly but necessary at the same time.

Why not let news agencies cover it instead of marketing agencies? That stupid commercial with the guy flipping the dollar around is a complete waste.

Whether your money looks odd seems kind of irrelevent. Paying actors and writers and buying air time during prime-time television seems like a waste...advertising is rather pointless if you don't have competition. Nobody's going to walk up to an ATM, pull out 20 bucks, and think to themselves, "Heck, this money isn't the color I'm used to. Think I'll switch to the yen."
An ATM could give me money knitted from purple yarn and I'd still attempt to spend it, with or without the advertisement showing a man giving flowers to total strangers.

I don't mind the color change. What I DO mind is finding out that the self-checkout register at the market cannot process the new bills.

In this case, they are really not advertising. They are showing the consumers about what to expect with the new dollar. By buying time during programs, they can reach a broader audience instead of just relying on news agencies to get the word out. It is a public service announcement that finally is not all dull and drab. Besides which, 10 million dollars is nothing when you think about true government waste. At least this money was spent on informing the public about something that is important in everyone's lives.

Yeah, but how long are they going to do it? They've been buying full page ads in Newsweek for the last two months.... The TV ads are still running?

I'm with Switchcraft... The national news media and word of mouth would have been plenty of PR....

Re: The new US $20 bill...

Heh... Bumping the oldest thread in the Sandbox, just for grins...

Now that we've all had time to get used to 'em, how do you like the new bills? The new $5 bill is suppose to roll out early next year...

Here's what they used to look like, in case you don't remember:

I liked the simple colors of either of the older bills. These new pink ones just aren't doing it for me...
