Big A** Splinter! (NOT WORK OR KID SAFE!)

Below is an actual emergency room photo of a gentleman who lost
control of his motorcycle on a country road in West Virginia.
Troopers believe that he was traveling at a speed of approximately
75mph at the time of the accident. He was unable to negotiate a
curve in the road. Unfortunately for him, upon striking the ditch
and being ejected from the bike, he landed back end first on a
fencepost from an old barnyard fence that was downed on the
side of the road. You can probably picture what happened next, but
the attached picture really says it all. The good news is that
after about 6 months, this man made a full recovery after
suffering a shattered hip, broken leg, several broken ribs,
internal injuries, and soft tissue" damage. Doctors credited his
recovery to the fact that the post lodged itself so tightly that
there was little or no blood loss.

Yeah, that's too graphic for our forums, but I think it's OK to link to.

Is that photo real, or photochopped?

Re: Big A** Splinter! (NOT WORK OR KID SAFE!)

I worked in an emergency room in college and saw some fun things like that. One woman flipped her car onto a fence and got a fence post through her abdomen - didn't do much damage really. It's amazing what can squish out of the way sometimes.

Re: Big A** Splinter! (NOT WORK OR KID SAFE!)

Every time I come back to this thread, I find myself clicking on the link (I edited it back to just a link, BTW, Monkerz), shuddering in horror, and quickly closing that browser window.

Morbid fascination is strange. Why do so many people react like this? Ever seen the movie "Stand By Me"? Great film about kids that trek out to see a dead body. Why do we want to see gross things?

This man no longer fears dropping his soap in a prison shower.

Re: Big A** Splinter! (NOT WORK OR KID SAFE!)

I'm pretty sure I saw this pic (according to the description... I refuse to hit the link) on another forum a year ago. No warnings, no preparation. Imagine opening *that* without any idea how bad it's going to be. It literally messed me up for a while that day. I just can't handle images of massive trauma like that.

I have a certain level of morbid curiosity, but it has a very definite limit. I don't know what the threshold is to tell you, but I sure know when I've crossed over it.
