I really DO want to quit....however mustering up the willpower to fight the craving is VERY difficult
I never fall for infomercials, but I bought this stuff before it was on TV. I smoked for 15 years and quit...Cold Turkey with this stuff. That was one year and a half ago. You definitely have to want to quit. Before I quit I hated everything about them; my breath, my clothes, my car...everything stinks to high hell. And now I smell it on people and I think, thank god! Not to mention the health benefits! I can actually run two miles again. Before, just walking up the Fn stairs would put me out of breath.

Good Luck, it's $50 bucks well spent!

Several thoughts, most of which I'm sharing to make it clear how I feel, as my wont to play devil's advocate often causes people to radically misunderstand my true opinion on issues. So few threads in these forums meet the two criteria of interesting me and remaining civil long enough for me to share my true opinions without regard for how it impacts the discussion. I applaud everyone for forming a thread which meets both.

Spectre, you didn't offend me, fwiw, with the obesity analogy. My pointing it out as inadequate in it's design was an attempt to give you a second chance to make your point, which I suspected might have a chance of being valid, despite being misrepresented.

To quote the wise and venerable Ender, yay capitalism. I can't stand the impacts of others' smoking habits on my immediate surroundings, but I enjoy as a customer making that clear to retailers, instead of my government robbing me of that power. I loved the direct designation regarding government buildings. My presense there is not an option, but I have the choice to go elsewhere when it comes to retail establishments.

When I don't drink caffeine for a week, I get a splitting headache that will NOT go away without caffeine. While my addiction to caffeine can't be compared to a cigarette addiction, I don't discount the mental and physical fatigue that accompanies any devoted attempt to stop smoking.

I date a non-smoker and it's been hard...as I've been trying to quit for some time...however I'm VERY sensitive to the fact that I smoke. I NEVER kiss her after I've had a cigarette and ALWAYS wash my hands, brush my teeth and gargle before I do kiss her.
Kudos, I wish there were more smokers like you. I don't however remember you brushing before you kissed me.
Ditto what E said
I also am happy to hear this

Living in Utah I believe that smoking is not allowed even in resaurants because they are considered public gathering places. The ones that get around this call themselves private clubs and you know if you are going to one what to expect. Same with bars if I was going to a bar I would expect to have to put up with the smoke. I don't care for bars so this is not a big problem for me.

That's how it is in the city of Dallas as well, but is it right? If you own a retaurant, and you want to let people smoke while they dine, is it right for the government to outlaw that? Just because an establishment is open to the public, does not mean it is a public place. That restaurant is owned by a person with rights. I just don't see how it's legal to enact smoking bans on private property...

Alcohol.
Gaming.
Sex.
In Canada at least, marijuana (heavily regulated, limited)

But none of those, with the exception of the mj, have detrimental health effects to people around you.
In 2001 there were:
430,700 deaths related to drugs (this includes overdoses, shootings and accidental deaths)

503,468 tobacco related deaths (9% of which were ruled to be the cause of second hand smoke)

312,992 deaths as a result of drunk driving.

These are overwhelming statistics on every scale. Legal or not, they ALL have potential to affect those around the user. You can find a down side to any topic.

Smoking, while a nasty habit (I recently quit after 20+ years of smoking) should not be done in the company of non-smokers. As for banning it from public places that are not office/government buildings, I think that should be the decision of the owner as well as it should be the decision of the patron to choose whether or not to frequent that place of business.

We ALL have choices. If non-smokers CHOOSE to go into a building that allows smoking that is their CHOICE. If a business owner chooses not to allow smoking that is their CHOICE.

Keep in mind that anything in excess has potential to kill.

So give yourself cancer outside, where you won't give anyone else cancer.

Can you name one thing that you want, that's crucial to your existance that you don't have? I don't think you can, Stfu, we live in a fine country that thousands of men died to create. You don't like it, live in etheopia, or however you spell that damn country's name. Where thosands of people die due to mal nutrition, and live an unsanitary life, every day, so that they can live one more day, and the next day will be the same as the last. I don't know how you can so harshly disgrace what people believed so much in, that they gave the most precious gift they ever received, all away, to create a new dawn, a new sunset for the cowboys to ride off into. Meanwhile you sit in your comfey chair, infront of your thousand dollar computer, placed upon your 100+ dollar peice of wood you call a desk, and still can't appricate it.

If some one were to take it away, you'd cry just to have it back. but like a baby we all cry for more, "but mommy i want it so bad". what if mommy wasn't there for you? what if the people that fought for your right to sit here and complain weren't there for you? what then?

Sorry, I can't stand babies.

Edit:: Added quote refference. So you didn't think I went off on some random rant.

Right, I don't reply much in these rants, because they make me sick, so I figured once wouldn't hurt. Plus I thought it'd be nice to let you know how i feel about our beautiful country.
