Everyone go to the debate thread. We're having this arguement there.

And I'm sorry, but I never want to see anything on Sept. 11 again. Media sensationalism drained all the emotion I had.

Things like this need to be left alone and remembered in silent respect...

Yeah, I watched more TV in the two following days than I had for the previous two years....

I disagree. People are already forgetting exactly what was done to us.

Do you remember how you felt on that day? Do you remember your shock, your horror, your fear? THAT is what you should not forget.

I agree with you, Cingular. I remember EXACTLY how I felt. I just couldn't stand the fact that some many people and companies took advantage of such a horrible situation and tried to make a profit off of it.

In some form or another. If I could digitize myself, I wouldn't hesitate :P

ROFLMAO!!!

Er, ahem, I mean: C'mon guys, this is supposed to be a serious thread!

OK, seriously now, eternal asked about the point of bringing September 11, 2001 up again. And I'll answer that I think the emotions that were brought out in Americans were pure. People were shocked out of their stupor that daily life has given them. For a while, people dismissed the silly partisan bickering. For a while, people were proud to proclaim that they were patriots. What's wrong with being patriotic?

I brought this up again, because I believe that it's something that we should simply never forget. I don't think we should ever "get over it".

That said, I have no problem with humor interjected in serious discussions. For some, that's the best way to deal with the pain...

Patriotism is a devotion to your country. There has certainly been a rise in partiotism in the US since Sept 11, 2001. However, I think most of the change in the country goes beyond patriotism and involves asserting that America is superior to all other nations and more people are beginning to believe in America as people used to beieve in religion. This is nationalism.

Now, there is nothing wrong with patriotism or nationalism, per se, but the history of the last two centuries has a great many examples of nationalism being used for wrongdoing.
