pft, even the poor in both out countries have good jobs. Try being a rice farmer in Asia, or a cocoa grower in S America. There is no welfare state or minimum wage, whilest EU subsidies guarantee poor prices for the export of many crops.

In the United States, time and a half must be paid for any work over 40 hours with few exceptions... Being a minor, AFAIK, is not one of those exceptions.

You need to read a bit more... While you're correct that babysitter's don't get a minimum wage, you're incorrect to say that retail workers, service workers or theater (local cineplex) workers don't legally rate overtime.

The FLSA website gives examples of jobs that are exempt from conforming with FLSA, but they don't do a very good job of explaining exactly why or under which circumstances those jobs are excepted...

Let me know when you've read and understand FLSA (good luck, I know lawyers and union reps that've been in the business for dozens of years that can't give me a definitive answer). Some things are black and white, others are open to interpretation.

Yes, but evidently you didn't read it very carefully, nor did you bother to read the actual statute.

Let's take a deep breath, realize that we don't always understand what we read, and wipe the silly smug look off our face. There, that's better.

Commissioned workers, for obvious reasons, don't fall under the overtime laws. In fact, I think most of the salespeople at Circuit Shack and The Best Buys that work on commission are independant contractors with the parent company instead of being employees. I dunno 'bout that, though...

Babysitting is the one you got right, and its excepted service is, again, for obvious reasons. Traditionally babysitting is performed by teenagers before they get a "real" job, and DOL defines "babysitting" and "daycare" MUCH differently, so no worries there...

Projectionests at your local theater are excepted, but are the numbnuts behind the counter trying to sell you a box of candy for $18.95 excepted as well? Let's see just how much you know about FLSA, Juggy. I heard you are "teh mastar"...
