VERY likely...

If the cops on the scene made the decision to arrest this guy, then they're dumb. I'd be willing to bet money that the decision to make the arrest was done by somebody a bit higher up the food chain. The problem wasn't that this guy was cuffed, I can almost guarantee you (otherwise his lawyer would be all over it...). The problem is that he was arrested, or even investigated, at all...

If my boss told me to do something I knew was incredibly stupid/immoral (like trying to sell a NAT firewall as a SPI firewall, or claim that 80 bucks for a 10 Mb hub is a good price (which is funny because Cisco charges 600 for one, anyways...)), I'd say no. In fact I have said no. I don't compromise my moral integrity for anyone except myself.

Any officer that uses the whole "I'm just doing my job" bit immediately becomes no better than a lawyer or used-car salesmen to me. I expect better than that from a person of true authority like a peace-officer.

Osama is behind this. The $2 bill is a Muslim invention to corrupt all us decent God-fearing Christian folk, into over-paying at Best Buy. We should form a "posse" and round up all the homeless people.

Man.... I've always wanted to be able to say the word "posse." Best word ever.

It's not disinformation in their eyes. They just leave a couple of little things out of the story... Everything they say is factual, so they feel that it's OK...

Doesn't your county Sheriff have a posse? Dallas and Tarrant Counties both have posses made up of the type of people that invented the "good ol' boy network". They're regular joe schmoes that have been given peace officer status without any need for training or anything.
