Which people would you be referring to? You'd be surprised how much respect cooks get from other people in the military. I mean, they get insulted every now and then in jokes, but everyone has to work together to make things work in the military. Trust me, after a long patrol, the field mess is a welcome sight...

And if the people you're referring to are ignorant civilians, well, you really don't have to respond to those non-hacking cowards...
Indeed. If someone who's never even >thought< of serving wants to put you down for not doing something overly glorious, well, hit em' upside the head with your frying pan
But still, I wouldn't have any cool war stories, and that's so the reason I'd join. Just to have a cool story to tell =P. It's like that commercial for the army... Or was it the navy... oh well, it said "If some one wrote a book on your life, would anyone want to read it?"

But, killing people isn't my thing... I'm too nice a guy, so I'll just sit back, and support the armed forces, but not participate...

Along the lines of that, it would be nice if arty posted a warning that 3 guys get gunned down by an Apache's 30mm cannon. It's not exactly the easiest thing to watch for some people.

I thought warnings were meant to come this sort of material. YOU may find it acceptable but others may not. Please show respect for fellow TG'ers and try and put a note on the post advertising what is in it. I for one do not want this place to become a video library of grotesque images and if it does expect fair warning.

thanks

As to the clip, this is for joining the AAC (army aircorps) or equivalent right? Since it is an Apache Helicopter or does the USAAF also fly these? I noticed the 1st rounds fired hit nothing and had to be corrected with the laser designator which probably wasn't set up correctly in the 1st place. Sounds like it is a training mission to me? Pretty devasting for 2 clicks out.

One kilometer is a click. I don't know where this slang came from.

The Apache belongs to The Army's 4th Infantry Division. It is not a training video or a recrutment video it is live footage in Iraq north of Baghdad on Dec. 1.

Here is the news article for it. Originally posted in sandbox by Cing

I wanted to ask how you guys feel this is gross? You dont see anything graphical at all. Maybe it id disturbing cause you hate war but IMHO it is not that bad to be called gross LOL

Also I dont think that is 2 clicks at all. The sites and night vision amplify the signal so it is a little more then 2 clicks I am sure

I don't know why but this one was a lot more intense for me than that long one a while back showing the AC130 attack on the Taliban guys. Maybe it's because it's more up close, or maybe because there are only three people in the clip - I don't know - but watching those rounds literally shred apart *anything* they come in contat with really makes you think about what they will do to human flesh and bone. Those poor SOBs never had a clue, nor did they have a chance.

Death sucks.

Even better was that you were looking at the action through a FLIR sensor (Forward Looking Infra-Red) After the guys were blown apart you can see the hot chunks of them scattered on the ground. That wasn't just dirt, as the FLIR's image is made up of heat.

Sad....but it's reality. The second guy they dusted was mounting an AA gun anyhow. The third one that was wounded was finished off to put him out of his misery.

I think you underestimate what some consider graphic. Regardless of whether it had the theatrical up-closeness we've come to associate with "graphic imagery", it did show real human beings being killed. That is what some felt was too graphic.

You ever notice how on those extreme bloopers shows or whatever you never see the car crashes or stupid stunts where people die? It's always the ones where they survive to tell the story. It's because the actual loss of life is considered by many to be too graphic. That's why some find this video graphic.

I have no idea how far actually but 2 clicks gives you an idea that they were a long way away which they must have been. The scopes on those gunships are pretty powerfully and the 1st round of gunfire wasn't even noticed until it was corrected and brought to bear on them..

2 Kilometers = 1.24 Miles

Pretty far for 30mm. Goes to show just how damn accurate the helmet mounted sighting system in the Apache really can be.

Spanish TV shows much more graphical stuff, even here in the States, but in Mexico, ick.

I hate to continue the graphical, gross part of the discussion, but what happens later? Do they just leave the mess for someone to stumble upon? "Daddy, look what I found!" Or does the Army have a "cleaner" crew?
