Re: What product would you recommend to anyone?

I started drinking coffee almost ten years ago regularly.

Then I began drinking espresso, and left coffee behind.

I soon bought a cheap Mr. Coffee espresso machine and began saving a ton of money by making it myself.

Then I bought a Krups. Huge difference.

Later, I switched to organic ground espresso beans, and couldn't believe the difference.

Now I grind whole bean organic espresso, using a small local roaster that is world-class (my luck the guy who wrote the bible of espresso roasting and invented the best roaster decided to retire here!).

Things I would recommend to any coffee drinker, in order of importance:

1. Buy organic shade-grown coffee. If you make your own, Cafe Mam is quite good, but search around for what you like.

2. Spend the money to get a good espresso maker. A basic Krups will last for thousands of cycles with minimal easy upkeep.

3. Get a mill grinder at Goodwill, (it will likely not grind fine enough because of milling surface wear) unscrew the housing and put little bits of rubber band under the mill seating ring to raise it by a mm evenly and you have a working mill grinder. Buy whole bean, and store in the freezer in an airtight container like a canning jar or Tupperware.

4. DON'T BUY STARBUCKS. Fight the power. They've made billions by duping Americans into paying rediculous amounts for beans that have surface scorch--the famous "Starbucks Roast". Any roaster worth their salt will use a hot air roaster, not a drum. Don't pay a premium for coffee that any Italian or French would spit out in disgust.

Re: What product would you recommend to anyone?

The little clips they used to sell in ski resorts to attach your permit to. They have a spring inside and a and a piece of string coiled on it so that you can extend the permit into the authentification device.

I use this as a key chain. It allows me to reach any keyhole without having to detach the clip from my trousers. This in turn keeps me from losing my keys, and -provided I have put the correct trousers on- keeps me from stepping out o the house without my keys.

I see the keyrings everywhere that can unlock your car at a distance, and I have to conclude that my low-tech solution is so much more effective. I can open any lock with nearly as much ease, and not just the car. Add that with the idiot proof advantages and we have a winner!

It is the Keurig one cup coffee maker. My lovely wife bought it for my birthday and I have enjoyed it every single morning. Every cup is the "first cup" and tastes perfect. It takes individual coffee packets (18 packets cost about 10 dollars) or you can buy special adapter so you can brew your favorite blend.

The best thing is being able to brew a single cup in the middle of the day instead of a whole pot.
I have had this for over a year and will never go back. This was the best b-day present I have ever received. I know it is expensive, but not as much as going to DD's. They also sell an insane amount of different brands and choices. Like Gringo stated tea, hot chocolate, and every different kind of coffee you can imagine.

They've got a GREAT selection of coffees too. I think this is going on my 'to get' list.. thanks for mentioning it. I don't drink a lot of coffee but this looks easy to take care of and the ability to do the right blend I want, when I want it.

I've had the best coffee in the world before it was 'discovered' and adulterated to a 'blend'.. Jamaica Blue Mountain. A Barnies I worked near got a 50# bag of beans by accident, the mamager and I were friends so I had 2#'s for the longest time.. Its was $35 a pound if I'd paid for it and that was a LONG time ago.. geeez I miss that. Gevalia had a pure blue mountain roast.. but it was utterly unaffordable at the time, now they have a 'blend'. Anyway.. I'm wandering..

Re: What product would you recommend to anyone?

OK.. first entry post holiday.

My Mom, the most non-tech person on the planet bought a Roomba 530 for her, me, and my sister (she got a 560).

It is FANTASTIC. It does my whole apartment in about 90 minutes. No, it doesn't actually 'vacuum' but for daily maintenance - you can't beat it. Best of all it takes care of the worst dust accumulator in your house - the floor.

It's the 5th generation of the Roomba.. they are definatly figuring it out.. the 500 series is a good job that will no doubt continue.

Re: What product would you recommend to anyone?

Next -

I am very happy with my guiltless bonus splurge for the year..

A bunch of the guys at the office have Micro-Heli's, including me and frequently relieve stress by letting theme loose in the design floor. I started poking into better quality stuff and found quite a selection, including the Mini's at Tower Hobbies.

The Axe CP comes well equiped at a great price, 1 hour of charging and 15 minutes adding the 'training boots' and it was in the air. And then, umm.. on the ground.. it's easy to fly but not very forgiving.. buy extra blades

I'm sorry I didn't read all the way through, but I believe this product deserves more publicity.

Sky Rocket Caffeinated Syrup. http://www.xoxide.com/skyrocket-caff...p-vanilla.html

It's a heart stopper, seriously!

That's awesome, but where can you buy it? I'm imagining smoothies and milkshakes with some kick! Or even a bit of an extra jolt to brewed coffee!

Edit: Man, I can't even find any on Ebay...

Just got an Flavia coffee system. Mars Corp. makes it. I really like it a lot. It is a single cup brew system that brews coffee, tea and cocoa.

Axis of Eeevil how would you rate this? You seem to know your coffee pretty good.
