I remember really wanting Star Fox too, but I also remember that we got it kind of late (maybe a year or so after it came out), and only a few months after that Descent came out and kicked the crap out of Star Fox. Still loved Star Fox though (mainly because we had a 286 that didn't have a chance of running Descent, so it wasn't until a couple years later I finally got a hold of that)

Re: The Year is 1994

There's a reason I haven't purchased a console since my psx because of that, if theres a game system out there ESPECIALLY if its outdated someone has created a piece of emulation software for it. My fav is the snes emulators they pwn . God that console had so many great games.

They aren't "Generic RPG Character #12: Knight Seeks Revenge for Dead Family Members And Says 'Thou' A Lot".
"Rich?" Please....

Cloud: I'm a Soldier... well not really. You see, I sucked balls so I was basically a "Red Shirt." But, some guy decided to experiment on me and make me tougher.... and a lot more whiny.

I also love Cloud's whole mindset:

"I'm only in this for the money."
Tifa: "But we've been friends forever!"
Cloud: "Yea well...."

Later on:
Cloud: "OMG the fruitcake with the 9 foot Samurai sword is trying to take over the world! We must fight on!"
"But we thought you were in this for the money."
Cloud: "Shut up, can't you understand my character has evolved. It called 'character developement.'"
"Yea, but you've know about Sephiroth running around for years."
Cloud: "Shut up!"
"And isn't it a little convienient all this crap starts happening as soon as you show up."
Cloud: "No... I'm THE ONE!"
:: cue 30 minute flashback::

Tifa: LOL, I've got big boobies. It's characters like me that objectify women and keeps 52% of the human population from playing video games. Oh yea, I've got a crush on Cloud so I'll follow him anywhere.

Berrett: I'm black and badass, I'm Samuel Jack... I mean Barrett. Oh yea, I've got a gun arm, and there's another like me that for some reason starts murdering people for no reason conviently after we arrive at the "Party Zone."

Protip: Don't open and close a story arch in 15 minutes of gameplay.

Red XIII: I'm a wolf, my daddy was a loser. Oh wait, you mean he didn't run away? He's a hero!? Story arch time: 15 minutes.

Aeris: Probably the only character with build-up that didn't make my head want to explode... .and of course: she dies.

Cid: <Insert guy named Cid into FF game as part of the genre>

Vincent: My back story makes absolutely no sense. But, RAWR!!! I'm a Vampire!

Yuffi: The most annoying character ever. I would have paid money to see her burn in a pit of fire.

Then we had the whole Materia routine. Basically, the only difference between the characters turned into what they looked like and how much melee damage they did. Which, in itself, didn't matter because I'd just hammer away with Fire 9 1/2.

Look, FF7 was a good game, but it's not nearly on the level as it's predecesors. And I'm not saying this out of nostaligia. I've gone back and played FF2 and 3 and I still care about the characters.

They all had their unique attitudes and abilities that were more than just show. Sabin's Bum Rush and upbeat cracks, Kain's Jump and constant pining for Rosa. They built up characters and made them unique without relying on Tifa's back destroying rack or Cloud's 7 foot long phallis.

That and the musical scores were top notch. FF7 was all industrial techno. FF6 had a large variety of unique scores for all characters. I recommend downloading the sound track, although the sound quality is dimished by today's standards.

So basically, "why pay for games when you can just download them for free?" This is one of the main reasons I believe the gaming industry is in the state it's in now.

I download roms for nostalgia, but I have that feeling because I purchased the games at one point or another in the past.

BOO! you didn't like the crappily translated story archs?? boo you! you didn't like the new character designer who's style is nothing like yo****aka amano's? boo! FFVII was a huge departure from it's predecessors, I still loved it and will give it huge props for bringing a whole new generation of gamers into the fold but good LORD do not try to pay too much attention to the storyline..... that's like trying to follow what's going on in FF Tactics.

I could have dealt with the rediculous story-line and gaping plot-holes of FF:Tactics, if the combat system hadn't been complete garbage and the XP system been designed with a collective IQ of 65.

"BUT OMG YUO COULD GET CLOUD AND HE PWNZORS WTH TEH SWORD OF DOOOOOMZOIR!" Nevermind the fact that you get him when all your characters are like level 50,000, so leveling him up to anywhere worth taking into a real fight would be sometime around armageddon.
