If you liked the Tshirt, you'll love this!
OK, maybe not, but it was a funny topic title...
The Attorney General for California, Bill Lockyer, has evidently used the California Department of Justice building to showcase some anti-American artwork. The artwork is interesting, to say the least, but is it right to have tax dollars spent in this manner? PHOTOS HERE!

It doesn't seem to be anti-american. Anti-present-administration, certainly, but not anti-american.

I don't see that exhibit making its way to a state-funded facility here in Texas any time soon. |

Man, I really like the church on tank treads. That's amazing.
Is it paradoxical for a public entity to fund first amendment expressions of displeasure and disagreement with that public entity? No, I don't think so: in fact, it seems like the most American thing of all. |

![]() That being said, I think the meaning of a term like "anti-american" is pretty hard to agree on. Is criticizing a administration or politician, or even the policies of a country anti-american? I don't believe so. I don't agree that these paintings are anti-american, but I can understand why someone would view them as so. All art is open to interpretation, and unfortunately that site interprets a lot of those paintings in a pretty extreme way. On the subject of "T’ANKS ALOT MR. BUSH"; that painting does seem anti-american, but to me that's because it's a pretty crappy painting that fails to convey the view the artist expressed in his writeup.

Re: If you liked the Tshirt, you'll love this!
Boomstick, I don't think it's anti-american at all to criticize an administration or politician: it's American to criticize EVERY administration and politician. However, I do think that at times of war each person needs to take care to consider how his or her actions and words can (and will!) be used by the enemy to improve their own morale and how those actions and words can hurt our own morale.
Choosing the homecoming game to unveil a poster showing your school being flushed down a toilet to express your disapproval of the current administration is likely to be seen by many in the crowd as...unhelpful, immature, self-centered, silly, mean-spirited, self-aggrandizing, etc. Anti-American. While those on the other side may wholeheartedly agree with your poster without understanding the symbolism or your somewhat odd way of expressing your love for the school. This (long, sorry) essay describes what I think when I hear "anti-american" Quote:

It's a dangerous path to tread, saying that certain actions/words that might be OK in peacetime are unpatriotic or suspicious in times of crisis, particularly when a morsel less than half of the nation voted to have the wartime administration removed from power.
