Re: Freedoms Lost Under George W. Bush
In every major decision and implication of new policies there are mistakes, no one is perfect. The Patriot act is a large step and unfortunatley some law makers piggy backed things that should not be there, some law makers voted yes not fully realizing the magnitude of the law. Unfortunately some enforcement has been over zealous. The Patriot act is a good law, but it does have some loop holes and needs to be better monitored.
A law this huge will undoubtedly have mistakes, once they are recognized, then they need to be fixed. Implementing a law by local, state, and federal agencies and how they interpret it will cause many mistakes for the citizen. Some of our nations best laws were at first mis handled, or mis interpreted. And I am sure there were arguments in regards to how they were implemented and utilized by law makers and citizens.
Even the Constitution was at first not accepted by everyone, some even felt it was an infringement on them. The Bill Of Rights, The New Deal (Social Security), Education laws, Civil Rights, the list can go on and on. But what matters is that history teaches us that even though these laws or political policies sometimes appear to be wrong at first, in the end they improve our nation as a whole.
STOP, yes history has proven also that sometimes while the law was a good idea it does not always work out and creates this huge pink elephant to deal with.
For what it is worth, I as many others here have been to other places and thank God that I live here. We have our faults, we make mistakes, but overall we are very lucky to have what we do. Right or wrong, we have American men and women in another country doing a job our country asked them to do. The least we can do is support them and honor them.
