Re: Friends on the Internet
As far as my on topic post... First off I have no problem telling people I have friends on the internet... Everyone knows I play online games, as well work on games online. When they see what we do, and how we play and how we are able to talk, they think it is as cool as hell.
I have people here that are acquaintances and then there are some that I consider friends. Some of us have grown to be more than just guys I play online games with, they are close friends that we talk and or work together on a regular basis. Either way I haven’t ever not told someone or beat around the bush about the whole online friends thing… I am not asshamed of my friends online and would not disrespect them by denying that I know them. We are all sharing a past time we enjoy.. Online Gaming... There is nothing disrepectable about that.. |

VERY TRUE, HOWEVER I PUT THE THEORY TO TES TODAY, I TOLD A MATE, I JUST BROUGHT IT UP IN CONVERSAITION... he laughed at first, and said onlin friends.. you dont even know them blah blah... but then i told him and showed him the site and i have invited him to listen in on a gamming session. it seems the problem as many have pointed out is not with the gamer but with the lack of understanding from others... i must admit when i joined TG comming on 3-4 years ago now... i was a wee lad and i was scared to speak on team speak because i thought it was wiered..,. now you cant shut me up. it displays that i as a person are comfortable with you as a group. and ill trake the same stance as you.. i have got to know people to the point where i would go for a drink with them if i was in the states... that by deffinition in my book is a mate. plus im working on stealing Luna from Paul oh and panz. oh and Riykers wife... they all have sexy voices. lol |

Re: Friends on the Internet
I was just saying to Paul last night how I would really like to meet (and re-meet) a good amount of people from here. Granted I was at the bash, but I hadn't so much as sat down for a single game at that point. I certainly didn't know anyone. It would be nice now that I know who you guys are and your personalities to get to meet up and connect the name with the face. The conversation would certainly be better this time around.
Oh and Dudeman.. sorry, kiddo. You're nice and all, but you're no competition for Apophis. ![]()

Re: Friends on the Internet
Yeah I was telling FM and Big-B this morning that is there was another bash I wouldnt at all think twice about it. I would jump on that again in a heartbeat.
My friends know that I have 'online' friends and dont care, as most of them are just as big a geek as I am. I think I do manage a healthy 'real' life as well though, which sort of helps my case. But yeah, I have no problems at all with having online friends..and even going to meet them. I trust everyone here at TacGamer and do actually consider everyone here my friend. Sure I know some more than others, but If you game at TacGamer it's good enough for me. Ive not met a person here that I didnt like ( except maybe Ryn,...hes an assbeef ). I still want the video from the bash again ( lost mine ) and the video of Paul on his cycle that was filmed in 'first person' . |

Re: Friends on the Internet
I personally am new here so I hope to call you all friends in time. So far I think that will be easy. Most forums I have visited are full of immature people attacking each other about useless stuff. No where near on topic and just plain stupid most times... TG seems like a lot more level headed and mature community.
Two of my best friends ar now far enough away that I dont ever see one and only see the other a few times a month. So we have become online friends and it works well. And we still have a great relationship. I think there is nothing wrong with saying you have friends online. I dont think it would be healthy to only have online friends though because talking online (well I havent used teamspeak yet... so I might be wrong) and posting in forums is not the same as having friends that you hang out with and go do things with. Friends that are there to help you in a bind at 3 in the morning if you really need it. I dont think anyone should be embarassed about having online friends. Friends are people that you share common interests with and enjoy talking to and spending time (on or off line) with. Some people wont understand. I never really understood clans until recently. But gaming with a group of experienced gamers who work together is the only way to do it. I jsut cant let it consume my life. I think that the people who have boarded themselves up in the basement of their parents house wiht a case of Mt. Dew, a case of Red Bull and some hot pockets is the reason people who dont game look at you funny when you talk about online friends and online communities. |

Re: Friends on the Internet
I really don't care what my RW friends think...like someone said earlier, I consider myself a normal guy who likes playing games...I hunt, I fish, I enjoy my motorcycle, I drink beer in my garage, I curse and make fun of my friends as they do me and I look at other woman when my wifes not lookin....Lol.
All in all, I have some great buddies here at TG...buddies I think I could call on if I ever got into some sort of jam in another part of the country or internationally for that matter. I am in the Army and have been all my life. I consider my friends here at TG to possess a sort of comaradre that can only be found amongst hockey teams and people who serve. My friends here at TG share a common intrest with me that is gaming. Having fun and slagging each other when given the opportunity. It's all good ___kin training.
