That's not true. Surviving trumps all. In a life or death struggle it's pointless to complain when the other guy kicks you in the balls, and it's stupid to refrain from doing so yourself.
The moral high-ground is a luxury, and a myth to the soldiers on the ground. Now, what I would *like* to have happen is for all of these detainees to believe in their hearts that we will torture them to death if we please. Telling the world exactly where the line is only helps them know exactly how long and how far the interrogation will go. Not helpful. |
