The crusader against violent video games is offering money to a charity if a game company makes his video game. I expected a game filled with fluffy bunnies and butterflies, but wow, was I in for a surprise. The crusader against violence proposes perhaps the most rediculously violent game I've ever heard of.

Not only does this show him as a gigantic hypocrite, but this, in my opinion, shows just how broken his mind is.

No, I understand the connection that can be made. I don't believe, however, that JT is of sound enough mental capacity to have done this with that in mind.

Supposing that he was able to be this clever, I don't think that it gives his cause any more power. Probably lessens it, actually. Back in Swift's time, something like this would be shocking. Today, it's just silly. I'm also willing to bet that a chunk of Thompson's loyal followers won't make the connection to Swift's work, and will be all sorts of confused or angry. Practice what you preach and all.

This game will never be made, obviously, but I'm wondering if Thompson would actually donate the money if it was. More likely, he'd probably try to sue whoever made the game.

Jonathan Swift.

It's unfortunate that anyone with a limited command of satire, such as our friend Mr. Thompson, can attach "A Modest Proposal" to their work and suddenly be blessed with all the reverence and good humpr accorded Swift himself. Thompson's diatribe is mean, vindictive, and specifically insulting to the targets of his ire, lacking any subtlety or attempt at humor. It's just stupid.

So you don't think that a man who's crusaded against violent video games is smart enough to write a satire and instead wrote a hypocritical proposal to hype an extremely violent video game and just happened to choose a title similar to Swift's famous satire?

I disagree with his assertions about violent games (but am open to considering his points: with sufficient evidence there are good reasons to occasionally curtail free speech. 12 year olds don't need full unfettered access to hard-core porn. Maybe they don't need full unfettered access to games that simulate war either) but I don't doubt that he is a very intelligent, well-read, and skillful debater.

It is possible for intelligent people to disagree. It's also possible for them to do so without stamping their feet and calling each other big stupids.

I'm trying to find his email correspondence with Scott Ramsuessen(sp?) of VGCats. It may have cycled off the news archive by now, but essentially JT copied Scott (a webcomic artist) on a general letter of criticism to various industry folks. Scott responded, JT fired back with some very strange insults indicating that he really didn't know who exactly he was sending email to in the first place, and then threatened Scott with legal action if he didn't stop harassing him.

The guy boils over with paranoid ramblings, has filed dozens of frivolous lawsuits against everyone in creation on behalf of grieved parents who may or may not exist, and he claims to be highly influential in certain political circles who most likely have never heard of him. He really is a nut. I guess the TV stations like to interview him for that reason.

Basically Jack Thompson emails Scott Ramsoomair a copy of some complaint he's emailing the ESRB or someone. By the end of all the correspondences, JT is claiming he never initiated the email contact, and resorts to threatening legal action for harassment. Hell, JT's first response is to degenerate into a 10-year old mentality.

This is part of why I say he's not an intelligent man. Maybe he was at some point in time, but his mind is broken now.
