What makes you say this?

I would think that any soldier who is trained to the level that Force Recon ( and those other high speed/low drag units that Cing mentioned) wants to get in the game. There can't be anything worse than training at that level and never getting to test yourself in a real world op.

I've done alot (I mean ALOT) of reading on SF units. These guys live for missions. If there's action anywhere in the world, they want a piece.

Entrance in SOCOM gives them a slice of the action pie...

Re: Marine Special Forces

They have always been an autonomous unit. The Marines are a very prideful bunch. If you are looking for the exact reasons I can't give them without doing some research that I don't have time for now. The Marines have some kick ass units (many would argue the best) so it has nothing to do with not wanting to fight. Ibelieve is has to do with control. If I remember correctly they only want Marines telling Marines what to do.

They have always had a slice of the pie.

Correct, but I think it's always been kinda controversial. Some wanted to be under SOCOM, some didn't...

oh ok.

I really don't know much about SOCOM mission tasking and handling. I was making the presumption that the Marine SF units would simply be put in the rotation for available missions but be able to carry out those missions under their own command structure.

I'm sure it gets confusing when multiple SF units are working cooperatively on a mission and that may be a situation where a commander from a different branch is giving Marines orders.

I still think this will raise the amount of missions handed to the Marine SF units though, and that most of the operators will be happy with more missions.

I think SQUID linked to a blog awhile back of a Navy guy with friends on the SEAL teams. They were very happy with Bush increasing their role in Afghanistan and Iraq and welcomed the increase in mission load. It made me think that most SF guys are happy with an increase like this.

Yeah, but every single one that I've met has despised the term "operator". They tell me that it's a term for wannabes and employees of the telephone company...
