The crime rate dropped but the population climbed. Why did the population climb? Was there alot more jobs available? More money for all? With more money there is less need to steal.

Anytime there is good economics there is a decrease in crime.

There is a book out that did stated the one of the best predictors of decreased crime was the abortion rate. A HIGHER abortion rate meant lower crime.

Hmmm....

What does that mean?

Yea, I agree. They are saying to the rest of the world if you move here you must do x,y and z. But in that case it is the government, with the support of the people I hope, trying dictate to all others in this country what must be done to have the privilige of living there.

In the case of a community saying "You can't have a gun" it is the community, hopefully, saying to the rest of the country "We have a problem here and we are trying to solve it this way. Move in if you want but just know that it isn't optimal right now." (Of course like I said early it could simply be a bunch of elitist butt holes being upity.)

I grew up in a place that wanted to be former. Didn't like it much. It seemed to me they wanted to say "We are Americans and demand all the good things that means.... BUT if you come here leave anything you where before at the door because that crap just doesn't fly. Because we are better Americans."

Maybe that is a good thing, trying to increase the standards. Or maybe those that founded this country already had standards good enough for us all.

Don't know.

Some books show that when Jupiter is ascending in the 2nd phase of Mars you are especially inclined to lose money on the stock market if you are a Pisces.

From the stats I've seen on the CDC, there is a strong correlation between abortion rates and urban populations - i.e. states with few big cities tend to have much lower rates than those with many. NY City has the highest abortion rate in the country - right around 1:1 in parts of the city.

I wonder if the author belives that NY is exporting its good-abortion vibes to the flyover states to cause the relatively lower crime rates many states enjoy.

Wow that's really low if I'm interpreting it correctly (as in a really nasty thing to say).

Re: Gun Control

I think there are many ways to interpret it. Even a positive one.

When people are given a chance to do what is best for the society as a whole, they generally do it.

Personally I'm thankful that no one can carry those around here in Canada.
That would not be "so cool".

I'm "cursed" with a good job in Richmond, so it'll be some time before I can find a saner State. (My boss is also pro-RKBA, and lives in Marin.)

Interestingly, in California (is that where you're from?), it's perfectly legal to walk around with an unconcealed holster full of shooting iron without any sort of permit or license...

Of course, the legality of it won't matter much to you when you're face down on the sidewalk saying, "Yes, officer. No, I won't move at all, officer."

Re: Gun Control

I don't mind you owning the guns to take to a range, or hunt, or collect or whatever you are permitted to do with them.

You said to "carry". We don't allow CCW permits for civilians here in Canada.

We had a really good intelligent discussion about gun control a year or more ago right here in this forum.

Re: Gun Control

I think an interesting note would be to look at where people are from according to the voting, particularly those who voted "against it completely". They are all from England, UK, Australia, and Canada. Those places have very strict gun control and people are raised to be against guns.

Don't take this as "starting a flame war", it's just an interesting fact. For those of you who are against it, it's also interesting to note that the law abiding citizens who do carry are not the ones getting into trouble and committing crimes, it's the criminals
