Re: Islam: the religion of funk
Leonidas, "hate" is a strong word. I am a Christian. I have been one for a very long time. I have yet to meet one that hates Jews. Lets try to stick to fact here.

Re: Islam: the religion of funk
Yes, kind of a harsh generalization. Every faith has its fanatics who choose to hate others for their differences instead of love them. That aside, I agree with Pickle, probably best to leave generalizations out of it.

I thought the red cross symbol is a reference to the harmony of nature and not the christian symbol of the cross. And yes, america is of course the most tolerant, it is in the natural order of things that the rest of the world be worse than us. Funny, america has a long history of slavery, bigotry, racism, anti-immigrant, and up until sometime after WWII, a good part anti-semetic as well, but it seems its easy to forget about all that when comparing american to everyone else. As for modern attitutes towards the jews is one of victimization here in America, is largely due to the indoctrination of the goodness of the US versus the hitler genocide. So when your comparing those two things, of course it makes the US look a lot better. Lummox: Impossible, its human tendency to create generalizations to understand large concepts (especially when answering subjectively as your relating to personal events from your own life). Although it is good to recognize when you are and try to be more specific. For topic starter: Yes Islam is backwards to you, but I'm sure they feel the same way about all the crazyness in the bible as well. It's in both religions, and personally I feel they are both "religions of funk". Last edited by aeroripper; 01-11-2006 at 04:51 AM. |

Re: Islam: the religion of funk
Let's say then that the French hate jews and stick to euro-centric bigotry. I've known several french people and all they talk about is how crappy jews are. One even drew me a picture of jew babies with horns and little tails.

I was a follower of Catholicism, that is, until the Priesthood turned out to be a haven for child molesters. Now I'm somewhat churchless. And Catholics don't have a monopoly on hypocrisy. I can't tell you how many times I was told that I was going to hell for being Catholic, not Born-again. Last I checked: same Bible, same Jesus, same God. Christianity as a whole needs to get their house in order and start living up to its requirements before they can tell anyone what to do. What do I mean by that? Instead of war, try peace. Instead of materialism, try charity and good works. Instead of division, try tolerance. Maybe Christians should read the Bible some time. |

Re: Islam: the religion of funk
I was a member of the Church of Divine Procrastination in college. If it could be put off, it was put off.
Those two links struck me as more anti-Christian and anti-Bush than pro anything. I guess Cing's form of agnosticism suits me much better: we can have respectful discussions and challenge each other's assumptions and experience without resorting to sneering at others' lifestyle or deeply personal religious beliefs. Or dragging politics into it. Aren't I wonderful, respecting a godless heathen like Cing? |

Re: Islam: the religion of funk
I was born into a Christian family and am now an atheist, so I get to experience a lot of "well-meaning" pity and disgust. I can sympathize with homosexuals.
I'm no more anti-Bush than I am anti-Kerry. They both want to micro-manage my life. They just disagree on where to start.
