Well, If there country calls them to action, I would hope that they answer the call, even if they sacrifice themself in the process.

No my friend, there is a second choice. You could go to your local state prison and get your wonderful gang rape from your new best friend, bU-BU, who is in the state prison for killing a man. Or you could go into battle for your country, even if you do not believe in what you are doing.

To fight for the fellow who is next to you. And the event that will come after 9/11.

My uncle was on the plane that flew earlier that day to florida. From the Bean town. Things are different when they hit close to home, you will find out about this one day.

Well that depends on the war. If my country was invaded I would stand and fight but I don't want to be a part of a politicians war and I wouldn't want friends, family or even joe bloggs dying for something that I don't believe in.

No-one should have the right to send you off to die for anything but you. And I wouldn't want to be near anyone who didn't want to fight. Your life depends on that of your comrades in arms - if they aren't up to the task it could be your life that's forfeit.

And that is why we rarely have drafts, viva Vietnam.

Re: The Draft's Coming

Sorry I don't understand? Are you saying we have drafts because we're being invaded? If so that is not the case. Wasn't the draft in vietnam needed because of the casualty rate? Are you saying that the casualties coming from Iraq and Afghan are that high that conscription is now necessary?

Unhappy Re: The Draft's Coming

here's an interesting point I thought of, the last draft was done during Vietnam war. But Congress hasn't declared war on Iraq, so why the draft? I was in the 8th Infantry Division back in 1989-1991 and the government started cutting back on the number of units and soldiers the draw down mind you. We've drew down so much to develop a "smaller more agile force", really we cut back so much that our Army is way too thin. So now they quietly institute the draft and will try to publish I'm sure, a supposed reason for starting a draft. No more conscript army.

Plus I read news reports that have said the US Government won't allow for kids to goto college or escape to canada like in Vietnam, because we have a agreement to keep draftees in the US. Glad I did my time. But I feel for the guys that this may affect and legionpaulL. keep your head down bro.

Not necessarly. Even though the death rate is increasing, I dont think that is the reason that this draft will come. I think it has a little to do with the pint that the soldiers out there need a break. Maybe that is the main reason, maybe not. I could only hope that it is for the soldiers well being. And thank you Papa6, I think I will keep my kevlar helmet on even when I sleep!

My point is, the military screwed itself basically. I remember when the drawdowns started, the plan to was make a smaller, more powerful and more mobile force. But when we got involved with the balkans, Haiti and everywhere we send troops. We strung ourselves so thin that the troops are strained beyond effectiveness.

the draft "COULD" be made real as it is in legislation right now, according to what I'm reading. The thing is according to the artcle I read, it won't happen before the election. But after the election, it could kick off. But first, it has to get passed by congress.

The face of this war is changing rapidly. We plan to be involved until 2005 !?! I think we'll be there alot longer than that.
