Indeed.

I thought LowDrag was going to be the only one to get this reference... They got away with that in the Army? Every Army base I went to (only Ft. Gordon, Bragg and that little one on Okinawa) was anal about "hazing" and "abuse".

Re: Fahrenheit 9/11 Trailer Released

Well that didn't take long.....like I'm surprised. I'm sure there will be more to come.

Crap, link doesn't work....here's the jist of it:

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rep. Mark Kennedy has unhappy memories of his filmed encounter with leftist moviemaker Michael Moore, an encounter featured Thursday in a trailer for the upcoming U.S. release of the film "Fahrenheit 9/11."

"I was walking back to my office after casting a vote, and all of a sudden some oversized guy puts a mike in my face and a camera in my face," said the Minnesota Republican. "He starts asking if I can help him recruit more people from families of members of Congress to participate in the war on terror."

Kennedy said he told Moore that he has two nephews in the military, one who has just been deployed in the Army National Guard.

But to Kennedy's annoyance, his response to Moore was cut from the trailer (and from the film, according to a spokeswoman for the movie).

"The interesting thing is that they used my image, but not my words," Kennedy said. "It's representative of the fact that Michael Moore doesn't always give the whole story, and he's a master of the misleading."

A spokeswoman for the film, which has found a U.S. distributor after the Walt Disney Co. refused to release it, said she had no comment

Talking Re: Fahrenheit 9/11 Trailer Released

Well lucky me. They do let us watch TV! Looks like June 25th is still on my schedule! I found out that not all the time we are training, we also have free time to relax and rest for a while. I think that me and my platoon got on the DI's good side from day one, so most likey, my good Sgt. Miller will be watching the show with us. lol

I thought this editorial was pretty good concerning Michael Moore

Re: Fahrenheit 9/11 Trailer Released

Damn, I was just going to post that Wolfie...

Great article by Christopher Hitchens, not exactly a Bush supporter. I particularly liked this passage:

Circling back to where we began, why did Moore's evil Saudis not join "the Coalition of the Willing"? Why instead did they force the United States to switch its regional military headquarters to Qatar? If the Bush family and the al-Saud dynasty live in each other's pockets, as is alleged in a sort of vulgar sub-Brechtian scene with Arab headdresses replacing top hats, then how come the most reactionary regime in the region has been powerless to stop Bush from demolishing its clone in Kabul and its buffer regime in Baghdad? The Saudis hate, as they did in 1991, the idea that Iraq's recuperated oil industry might challenge their near-monopoly. They fear the liberation of the Shiite Muslims they so despise. To make these elementary points is to collapse the whole pathetic edifice of the film's "theory."

Re: Fahrenheit 9/11 Trailer Released

lol...

In school, this was called a logical fallacy :

And Iraq itself would still be the personal property of a psychopathic crime family, bargaining covertly with the slave state of North Korea for WMD.
Best part of that blathering mess was to tell people to watch it, and make up your own minds.

hehehe...

And who would have thunk this...

The Horror!

Again... I'll wait till I see it before I pass judgement.

The writer, I believe, was using a logical fallacy to highlight Moore's use of it. I will exercise my 1st amend. rights by not putting another dollar in Michael's pocket.

Re: Fahrenheit 9/11 Trailer Released

Why are people so hung up on a little embelishment of the truth? Jeez you get that everyday so why is this any different. I watched bowling for columbine and thought it was a great film and he put a good point across. Everyone embellishes the truth and you're a hypocrite if you accept it from only one side of the fence.

It is the fact that he won an Oscar for "best documentary" for a fiction film that I'm hung up on...

Well, that's great if you can go in and see the movie for what it is, lies, and it doesn't bother you. There are a lot of people that don't see it that way, and believe the crap at face value. One of my best friends blew me away after she saw the movie..."I didn't know Lockeheed Martin made nukes, they're right by my house!" ugh

He is selling lies to not only make money, but in an election year he is trying to change votes with the movie. Every movie he has made has done more than embelish the truth, and yet he is celebrated with awards and standing Os. What does that say about those people?

I may go see it, but I'll buy a ticket for another movie and sneak in.

Re: Fahrenheit 9/11 Trailer Released

whoopee doo. Oscars have been given for far worse (titanic) and Moore didn't give himself an oscar did he. Are you basing your dislike for his films because he won an oscar? How did moore have any influence on that? If you have a problem direct it to the oscar people - you can hardly blame moore can you?

Perhaps you had something from 'shark-week' in mind as a contender?

Heck yeah, do it!

Knowledge is power. (even the poor girl that mistook rockets for nukes)

And bowling was a fiction film?

so.... none of that stuff happened fiction, or none of that stuff happened in the light you would prefer it to happen in so it's fiction?
