Re: President Ronald Reagan - Dead

Regardless of teh debate over whether or not he was "great" (I'm on dog's side of this one), this statement is true:

America will forever be in his debt.

I'm not going to participate in a debate today over this issue today. But, if you feel like reading a more in depth look at Debt then spend 10 minutes here.

the debt is over 7 trillion..... http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/
a FAR cry from 87 billion.... heck, we increse the debt in 60 days the entire amount it was in 81. this is due to 16 years of overspending..... regardless of the evil that was clinton, he balanced the budget..... reagan and the bush brothers did this to the country.
This is a bit naive actually. Reagan is no more responsible for the debt as Clinton is responsible for balancing the budget. They don't have control over it. It has to go through Congress. Reagan did bring military levels up to a needed level sure. He had a reason for it though and it worked. Clinton downsized all that military and now we have military deficits.

Because of Reagan, Carter's legacy did not stay long. Because of Reagan, the last 3 presidents got to see the effects of Reagans economy. Despite what you may think, our economy is doing great compared to the 70's.

2) the iran-contra affair. another example of a president ignoring the un and congress and doing what they want to do anyway. (my biggest problem with bush..... had he just gone through the right channels to do what needed to be done......)

So this was Reagan's scandal. Every president has had one. Yet in the last 50 years, no president was responible for more positive things than Reagan.

3) nuclear war. we were at defcon 2 once and defcon 3 twice while reagan was in office. defcon 2 has only been seen 2 times. the other time was the cuban missle crisis.
Already explained. Besides, anything Reagan did was to prevent nuclear war. Sometimes you have to appear crazier than the other guy. It worked too.

other than that, I like the guy. Im not saying to hang the guy on display as a war criminal, just to see the whole picture, not just the good points. he screwed up on some important issues. no one wants to bring those up, even though they have had lasting consequences....
No President is a god, but when a guy does the many good things that Reagan did, then dies, you don't stomp his memory in the dirt. It's a bit insensitive to your fellow gamers who liked the man.

but far be it for me to say anything against the popular concensus. heaven forbid someone have a hint of dissention. sorry for speaking my mind... you guys can kiss my butt.
I don't have a problem with you speaking your mind. I have a problem with the "facts" you presented. Sorry for correcting you and no, I don't think so.
