Re: Flight 93
I broke down and watched United 93 tonight.
I had originally planned to skip this one. I usually watch movies to escape reality for awhile, not to have it thrust in my face. Also, while September 11th, 2001 was not the most gut-wrenching day of my life, it ranks up there for good reason. If this movie was bad, just a feeble attempt at exploiting the events of that day, I would be more than a little angry. If you are on the fence about seeing it, I recommend you do. As far as I'm concerned, this was a masterpiece. Not in the sense that I want to stick it in my DVD collection and invite friends over for a night of popcorn and September 11th. But it really was perfect. I cannot imagine a better film made about this particular subject. It was gripping. I found at the end of the movie that I had been leaning more and more toward the screen for the entire duration. The air traffic control scenes, which take up much of the first portions of the movie, give a good minute by minute account of what went on that day. The scenes onboard United 93 seem to be a faithful depiction. Characters are not developed in any traditional sense, thankfully. Doing so would have seemed fake. The cell-phone calls from the passengers give a good sense of the emotions running in the rear of the plane, and the voice-recorder was followed faithfully, from the initial worry of the hijackers when the passengers are seen to be plotting in the rear, to their panic when the passengers are ramming the cockpit door. Nothing about this movie seemed exploitive. This is one I'm happy to have spent my money on. |

Re: Flight 93
I saw this a week ago and was really impressed. I was woried it was going to be all "hollywooded", but it wasn't... and it also was fairly politically neutral (neither a "rah rah USA" film or a "mikael moore" film) - more like a dramatic documentary...
I highly recommend checking it out... |
