Re: Do you own a gun?

I have several, shotguns, rifles, hand guns, but I only keep one in the house, a Colt 45 under my bed in a lock box. I got my first gun when I was 8 or 9 and was shooting before that. I think I own about 12 now. But I leave them at my dads house in a large safe with his madssive collection.

Re: Do you own a gun?

I do, but I also use my dads and grandfathers as if they were mine.
1 auto shotgun
2 pump shotguns
1 break action shotgun
1 pistol
1 CO2 pellet pistol
3 bb rifles
1 shotgun pellet gun
1 slingshot
1 .270ca rifle (the one i love to hunt with )
1 .243cz rifle (also real good to hunt with)
1 muzzle loader rifle
1 muzzle loader pistol
2 .22 rifles
I think thats all..

Can you tell that I live in TN?

(the above were me, my dad, and my grandfather put together, as we all use them as if they were all of ours)

Re: Do you own a gun?

some pellet guns are inaccurate. depends on what brand. A .22ca RIFLE is a gun. It used blackpowder to discharge the bullet. A .22ca rifle is much, MUCH more dangerous than a pellet gun. Most pellet guns can barly scratch the skins, whereas a .22ca rifle can penetrate the bone.

Re: Do you own a gun?

my freshman year in highschool I was on the varsity rifle team. my yearly average was a 497.878 out of 500. the best guy on out team was #1 in the state with an average of 499.722. every member of our team was in the top 25.... even the jv team was in the top 50.... three of them were in the top 25 as well. we had three in the top ten.... I was 9th.

I shot over 100 rounds every day for 9 months.

I could hit a .25" bullseye from 500 yards almost consistently.

we practiced from 50 yards and I was close to perfect. a little over two misses per 50 targets, and they were only on the 9 ring.

that last time I shot, I shot a .38, .45, 10mm, 12 gauge with a solid slug? (I think.... the thing felt like a baseball bat hitting my shoulder.) and a 7.62 rifle I think... it was like three years ago.....

I doubt that I could hit the paper now, much less the bullseye from 100 yards, much less 500...... 14 years out of practice.

Ahem... I know it's been a long time since you did this and you might have accidently put that decimal point in front of the 25, but I must invoke the

A quarter of an inch from the 500? I don't think there's any ammunition that is that consistant. I'm not doubting human ability, I just think there are too many variables to be able to shoot groups that tight... Even if you clamped your rifle down in the most stable rest in the world, I don't think you could get that kind of performance.

Or am I thinking crazy here? What kind of rifle? What caliber?

Re: Do you own a gun?

My .22 was accurate (long shells.. not the short ones)
Half a football field away i shot a 12ga shotgun shell off a stick... i hit the yellow part tho. My dad hits the silver/gold part almost every time >.<

Yeah, but that's an one and a half inches at 50 yards. You have to remember that when you increase the range, you increase the variables, regardless of how good your rifle and ammo are. 500 yards is a decent distance. If he'd said he was making 5 inch groups (1 MOA, right?), I'd say "damn, that's pretty good". If he'd said he was shooting 1 inch groups, I'd tell him that he needs to go to Camp Perry.

But I don't know how he was shooting these groups... He might be using really good handloads, shooting from a rest, with ammunition and chamber/barrel being kept at a constant temperature in an indoor range with controlled humidity.

Or, I might just be idiotically ranting when he just made a typo... I feel like such an ass for this...

I have to agree, a poker chip at 500yds that regularly is pretty amazing and its an inch or more.

And sorry sniper but 22s dont count. Almost zero recoil... might not even injure let alone kill what you are aiming at... might as well throw your rifle at them. IMO I started on a 22 when I was 6 or so and stopped using it before I got hair anywhere..

I feel like I'm in some sort of weird dream or on drugs or something... Am I going crazy?

Didn't you say "half a football field away"?
